Today it was announced that players of People's Postcode Lottery will award an extra £2 Million to be shared by 40 charities.

Charities, such as Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres and Canal & River Trust, will now receive an extra £50,000 this year on top of the fantastic sums of money they already receive from our players. This money will make a considerable difference to the communities, environments and individuals these charities work with.

Just last month it was revealed that players had awarded an amazing £40 Million to charities and good causes since its launch in 2008. Players are now contributing even more to charities with 50p from every £2 ticket going directly to hundreds of good causes through funds awarded by seven grant-giving Trusts.

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People's Postcode Lottery, said, "This is fantastic news that players are able to support these wonderful charities with an extra £50,000 each, with an amazing £2 Million being awarded overall. As the number of players continues to increase the amounts awarded to charities will only continue to rise. On behalf of all the charities that are receiving this funding I would like to say a massive thank you to all players for their unwavering support. It truly is invaluable and makes such a difference to so many lives."

PDSA, an organisation newly supported by our players, is just one of the charities that will receive the extra £50,000. This funding will allow PDSA's care and expertise to touch the lives of thousands of deserving animals.

Jan McLoughlin, Director General at PDSA, said, "We are absolutely delighted to hear that players of People's Postcode Lottery are able to award PDSA an extra £50,000. These funds will help us continue to look after the 470,000 pets that require care each year and I would like to say a massive thank you to the fantastic players of People's Postcode Lottery for their continued support."

In January 2014, People's Postcode Lottery and its sister lotteries in the Netherlands and Sweden were collectively announced as the second largest charitable private donor in the world, according to British business-focused newspaper City AM. In total, players of the five charity lotteries generated over £441 Million in 2013 for over 200 charities worldwide.
