Go the extra mile in support of fantastic causes all over Britain
With Christmas now a distant memory and summer creeping nearer, what better way to get fit than dusting off your trainers for charity? There's an action packed schedule of events you can take part in.
Lots of the charities funded by players of the People's Postcode Lottery host their own sporting events. These projects seek to get the British public up on their feet in support of great causes. There's something for everyone. Regardless of your fitness levels, you can make a difference by getting in shape this summer.
Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres will be holding various Night Hikes and Monster Bike Hikes all over the country, from London to Glasgow. Varying in length, you can join thousands of others to raise funds and awareness. Why not check out the Maggie's schedule online to see if there's an event in your local area?
This year, Missing People have organised a Miles for Missing People event. This will be held in Regents Park in London on Saturday 17 March. The team is calling everyone to don their running shoes and take part in the 10K run.
If you fancy getting your teeth stuck into something a little bigger, charities often have fundraising spots up for grabs for the big running events. These are held throughout the country every year and include the Great North Run, the London Marathon and the Edinburgh's running festival, as well as many others. So, if you miss out on a ballot spot, why not get a team together and run in aid of charity? As well as a place, you get fantastic help, training ideas and advice, and that crucial support on the day.
For those looking to tackle something further afield, CHILDREN 1ST has places in the Paris Marathon. Why not combat all that healthiness with delicious crepe and chocolates, whilst you take in the beautiful sights? Sounds perfect.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out your trainers, get online and get running. Good luck!
