One of last year's successful Dream Fund projects, the Royal Botanic Garden's Edible Garden has really taken root since launching in April 2011.

Not only has the project inspired local communities to get outdoors and grow their own produce, but it has been a constant in the headlines, providing the Royal Botanic Garden with some fantastic coverage.

Today, the project has once again been featured in the Scotsman Online. The piece is a wonderful review of the garden and the team involved in running it. It also notes how the Edible Garden has managed to withstand the brutal winds and bitterly cold frost – unlike other parts of the Botanics, unfortunately.

As well as being a huge success – educating inner city dwellers to embrace home grown produce – the Edible Garden challenges the image of the Botanic Garden. It banishes the ‘don't step on the grass’ image and gets people to smell, touch and eat what they are growing.

The Edible Garden project received over £65,000 to bring their idea to life; it was one of the four successful applicants that received funding from the People's Postcode Trust's Dream Fund. This funding is provided entirely by players of the lottery. After such a successful start, there are plans to continue the project and involve even more local Edinburgh residents in growing their own food.

Projects like Edible Garden are only possible with the continued support of the lottery players – your funding brings local communities together and makes the world greener. Thank you to everyone who plays People's Postcode Lottery.
