Ellen MacArthur Delivers Key-Note Speech At People's Postcode Lottery Gala
Last week, at the 2013 People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Gala, Dame Ellen MacArthur delivered an inspiring key-note speech.
She talked about her experiences of sailing solo around the world and the events that inspired her to start up her Cancer Trust in 2003. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust (EMC) takes young people - who have been fighting cancer - sailing for four days. The experience takes the participants away from their problems and helps to build their confidence.
People’s Postcode Trust, funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, has funded Dame Ellen’s Cancer Trust on three separate occasions. The EMC Trust was awarded £10,000 to help buy a minibus, £5,818 for new skins and a further £40,000 to facilitate the opening of a new sailing hub in Scotland.
The trust currently operates on the Isle of Wight, so a hub in Scotland would make these wonderful sailing trips much more accessible to more teenagers battling cancer across the country.
