During the course of the Parliamentary recess, People's Postcode Trust and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) were delighted to host Mark Lazarowicz MP at the Edible Gardening Project. This visit was the perfect opportunity to look at the tremendous impact this joint project between RBGE and Scottish Allotments and Gardens Society has made since being awarded £65,200 from the Dream Fund in 2011.

The Edible Garden Project is committed to promoting healthy eating and encouraging people of all ages to develop the necessary skills to grow their own food. As a Dream Fund finalist, this fantastic project received funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery to help its organisers achieve their aims for sustainable living.

Ian Edwards, Head of Exhibitions and Events at RBGE, provided the tour and introduced Mr Lazarowicz MP to some of the volunteers and staff working hard on the project. These team members are using their expertise to prepare the vegetable and fruit plots for the coming winter weather.

Commenting on the Edible Gardening Project, Mark Lazarowicz MP said, "I was really impressed by the project and the people who were volunteering and also the way that the local schools, the local community are involved in different ways as well. It's a good project and I hope it will grow from strength to strength."

Mark went on to encourage charities, grass roots organisations and other good causes to apply to the Dream Fund and "try and do something really exciting in the way that the project here has". Time is running out to apply for Dream Fund 2014. The deadline for applications is 20th September 2013. Shortlisted candidates will be notified in October and invited to provide a full submission. The winners of the Dream Fund will be announced at People's Postcode Lottery’s Charity Gala on 29th January 2014.
