People's Postcode Lottery Players Help Missing People Launch Textsafe Service

29 November 2010

People’s Postcode Lottery’s ongoing support for Missing People has enabled the charity to launch Textsafe. This initiative allows a text message to be sent to a missing person’s mobile phone, offering access to confidential and neutral help.

The charity will be working with the Central Scotland police force to launch TextSafe. The SMS Gateway provider Kapow has offered free text messaging for the Textsafe campaign, so the text initiative will come at no cost to police forces.

The scheme allows for better co-ordination between the police and missing people. It can provide a more rapid response rate to better identify and understand any underlying issues which might exist.

By supporting the Textsafe initiative, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have enabled Missing People to offer a lifeline to the 250,000 people who run away and go missing each year. For those left behind, the charity provides specialised support to ease the heartache and confusion.

Thanks to the Lottery’s generosity, Missing People has answered over 114,000 desperate calls to their helplines and directly connected over 450 families in the last year.
