Postcode Lottery support for Missing People helps reunite 1,000 families
Alone, exploited, afraid. But he still can't face phoning home. Missing People can help.
Missing People offers a lifeline when
someone disappears. They provide
specialised support for those left behind to assist the search for their
missing loved one and help end the heartache and confusion.
Recently published statistics reveal that
an estimated 216,000 individuals were reported missing to UK police forces in
the year 2010-11 (National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), June 2011). However
it is estimated that a staggering 250,000 people go missing each year (The Home
Office, May 2010).
People's Postcode Lottery players have
provided over £1.9 Million in support to date to help the charity. Jo Youle, Chief Executive of Missing People
said “The NPIA's figures are truly shocking. When someone you love goes missing
you want the world to stop and join the search. This Christmas thousands of
families of missing people will face the pain of not knowing what has happened
to their loved one. The impact on these families is great and can range from
emotional to legal and financial issues.
“This Christmas staff and volunteers at charity Missing People will be there 24 hours for families of missing people. Via our Helpline we give advice, specialist support and a safe way to reconnect. So far this year, thanks to the support of players of People's Postcode Lottery, we have reunited 1,000 people. Thank you for making this possible – you are a lifeline when someone disappears.”
