Boudewijn Poelmann, CEO of Novamedia
Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries, the founder of
the People's Postcode Lottery, has been announced as the world's third-largest
private charity donor, according to newspaper City AM.
Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is in third place, having donated a total of £451 Million for good causes across the world. Only the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in America and the Wellcome Trust in the UK (which donated £1.67 Billion and £602 Million respectively) are ahead as the largest private donors in the world.
The World's Largest Donors list, compiled by London-based business newspaper City AM, places the WK Kellogg Foundation in fourth place and the Ford Foundation in fifth.
Set up
in 1989, Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries organise lotteries to raise money for
charities. Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries have donated over £3.35 Billion in total, including £451 Million in 2010.
The
People's Postcode Lottery in the UK donates 20 per cent of its ticket sales to
charity. All of the money raised by the UK lottery stays in the country. The
lottery raises unrestricted funds for charities such as Maggie’s Cancer Caring
Centres, CHILDREN 1ST, Missing People and donates project funding
through its grant-giving People's Postcode Trust.
Over £15.7 Million has been raised for charities in the UK since its launch in 2005.
