Milestone amount for charities and good causes
Players of People's Postcode
Lottery have raised over £30 Million for charities and good causes
since its launch in 2008.
The money has made a massive difference to
hundreds of communities throughout Britain. Funding has been awarded to small
community associations as well as national charities.
Jo Bucci, Managing Director of People's
Postcode Lottery, said: “Raising over £30 Million for charities
and good causes across Great Britain is an incredible milestone and it's all
thanks to the support of players of People's Postcode Lottery. I've seen at
firsthand the tremendous impact our players have on good causes the length and
breadth of Great Britain, from supporting major charities like Maggie's Cancer
Caring Centres to small-scale local community initiatives that deliver a big
Postcode Lottery has enjoyed phenomenal growth over the last 18 months and we
are confident with the help of our players we can build on this success and
continue to deliver even more support to charities, grass roots organisations
and other good causes across Great Britain.”
One of the charities supported by players of People's
Postcode Lottery is Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. Maggie's build innovative
places across the country that help support anyone affected by cancer. The
centres are designed by some of the world's best architects and are warm,
friendly and informal and located near or at treatment hospitals.
Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager, Gemma Branney, said, “Maggie's is
incredibly grateful to have received £2.5 Million from players in the last five
years, funds which have been vital in ensuring we keep the doors of all 16
Maggie's Centres open and can continue to offer our unique programme of support
to people with cancer as well as their friends and families.
It is thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery that Maggie's team of experts can provide people with vital support at an incredibly difficult time of their lives.”
As well as passing the £30 Million
milestone for charities and good causes, People's Postcode Trust, the
grant-giving trust funded by players, has awarded its 1,000th grant.
Charities awarded much needed funds this year include:
The Little Owls Pre School, based in Reading, who aim to provide
opportunities for each child to develop physically, mentally and socially
ECAS, based in Edinburgh, who are a voluntary organisation dedicated to giving friendly and practical help for physically disabled people and
the St John Cymru Wales, based in Cardiff, is a first aid charity who teach lifesaving methods and providing first aid products to the workplace, communities and schools.
People's Postcode Lottery, is part of Novameda, the third largest charitable private donor in the world according to British business-focused newspaper City AM.
