With the arrival of Spring, the season for planting trees has drawn to close for another year. As such, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) is celebrating the creation of 14 hectares of new woodland across the Yorkshire Dales – all with the support of you, the players of the People's Postcode Lottery.

To date, our players have raised over £225,332 for the Trust. This funding has supported the planting of around 18,000 native broadleaf trees between October and March. It is hoped that these trees will go on to create vibrant wildlife habitats, bringing huge environmental benefits to the area and communities.

Among the 18,000 new trees planted is a sapling which has been planted by the Trust in recognition of the support received from the players of People's Postcode Lottery.

Speaking about the honorary sapling, David Sharrod, YDMT Director, said; “This young tree has been planted in a new woodland near Darley in Nidderdale to celebrate the fantastic support from the players of People's Postcode Lottery. Thanks to this funding, we are able to deliver more projects that benefit the environment and our communities – like restoring native broadleaf woodlands.

40p from every £2 spent with People's Postcode Lottery goes directly to great causes all over Great Britain. To date, players have raised over £17.1 Million in total for charities in England, Scotland and Wales.

Working closely with partners including Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and Forestry Commission, YDMT have helped to plant just over 1 million native broadleaf trees in the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to date.
