The Postcode Lottery has given over one million pounds to North East winners and selected charities, since launching last July.

The news comes as the latest winner Sarah Smith, 38, from Stockton on Tees, becomes the 25th winner of £25,000.
Behind Sarah's win lie some impressive statistics. The Postcode Lottery currently has over 23,000 players, with some playing two or more tickets, resulting in over 30,000 tickets being played each week.

There have been 11,467 district winners, almost the population of Ferryhill, Co. Durham (11,600).

And if you add the total number of players to these district winners, the total adds up to more than the population of Alnwick (31,000).

The money distributed in prizes to date, would be enough to buy tickets to fill the Darlington Reynolds Arena - twice, and 60% of St. James Park available capacity.

124 out of the total 134 districts in the North East have at least one player of the Postcode Lottery. The lottery has created 45 jobs within the region.

Regional Director Ross Forbes is thrilled with the considerable success to date. "The latest results are fantastic. They are a credit to our excellent sales teams and of course our players. We are very grateful for their support, as are all our charities, which have benefited so much.

"We encourage everyone to keep playing and to continue supporting their own region and their own local good causes. This money has helped our charities hugely and has enriched the lives of our winners and their families," added Ross.
