Stoke-on-Trent players set for Summer of Sport after winning brand new HD LCD TVs
Postcode Lottery players and charities from Stoke-on-Trent have got their summer of sport underway, winning brand new LCD TVs at the weekend.
In our Summer of Sport giveaway, 220 players from Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area gathered at the Britannia Stadium to collect brand new 26” LCD HD TVs.
With the Euro 2012 madness taking over the country, and with Wimbledon
and the Olympics just around the corner, there's plenty to celebrate when it
comes to British sport – and that means catching the action in style and in
All players of People's Postcode Lottery were entered into the one-off giveaway to be in with the chance of winning the brand new TVs. It was players from Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area who won.
Julie Rice and Gillian Wood were two of the lucky players at the stadium over the weekend. “My TV just broke the other day,” said Gillian. “So I couldn’t believe how lucky I was when I found out I’d won a new one. Absolutely perfect timing and such a lovely treat.”
“I’m really chuffed,” added Julie. “I’ve only been playing the lottery for four months, so I was over the moon when I found out. Let’s hope it's the start of a winning streak!”
Local charities were also winners. ARCH, Brighter Futures, Gingerbread and Home Start collected ten TVs each to use in their services and centres.
Emma Robertson from Brighter Futures, a local charity offering creative support, housing and employment, described how winning the ten TVs will be a great boost to their new development. This project will cater for locals living with learning disabilities.
“We're planning to use the TVs in our brand new self-contained flats,” said Emma. “It’s fantastic news, the TVs will really improve the living areas and make the residents' time there even more personal. We're absolutely delighted and can't thank the players of the lottery enough.”
The other charities plan to use the TVs in similar ways, enhancing their communal areas and improving facilities for service users. ARCH had been recently trying to fundraise to get the money to purchase TVs, making their win a fantastic coincidence.
With 40p from every £2 ticket going to charity, supporting good causes is a big priority for players of People's Postcode Lottery. Nicola Pointon, another of the lucky players at the stadium, was delighted to see the charities at the event. “It's great to hear that local charities are also benefitting in the giveaway. They're all such fantastic causes, so it’s wonderful to see them win as well.”
Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £18.6 million to
date for good causes all across Great Britain.
