On 28 July, Catrina Flynn, Fundraising/PR Manager of Children North East, wrote to thank our players:
Thank you so much for the latest generous donation of £83,580 from The People's Postcode Lottery. This brings the total donated by your players to Children North East to £267,239 and it is truly wonderful that The People's Postcode Lottery has now raised over £8.6 million for charities throughout the UK, we are delighted to be a continuing beneficiary of The People's Postcode Lottery, a lottery which really does benefit local communities.
The support of the players of The People's Postcode Lottery is very important to us because the money raised enables us to continue our work to ensure better lives for the North East's poorer children and young people.
Over the last 18 months Children North East has been fundraising to refurbish and extend our Youth Enquiry Service based in the West End of Newcastle and I am happy to say that this refurbishment work was just completed at the end of last week and the staff and young people who use this project are so excited about moving in. This project offers advice and information to young people aged 11-25 who live/work in the West End of the city, an area of extreme social and economic deprivation. Young people access the centre for many reasons but whatever their reasons they are sure of a warm welcome from friendly and knowledgeable staff who can listen and advise them on their particular issues and support them to move on and overcome their difficulties and reach their full potential in life.
We still have a little way to go to complete the fundraising for the newly refurbished centre but it is thanks in no small way to the donations that we receive from The People's Postcode Lottery that we were able to in itially purchase the building for the centre and kick start the renovation and extension work. The donations being unrestricted income mean that we can spend it to benefit those that need it most at a time when it is most needed so once again a big Thank You from Children North East and the children and young people we work with to everyone who takes part in The People's Postcode Lottery, your support means a great deal and makes a huge difference.
