Climate change is
killing bees. Respected research indicates that
bee populations are declining as a result of global warming. Their role as
pollinators means that if this continues, food crop shortages and devastating effects on the natural ecosystem will follow. Coupled
with this, there is a shortage of experienced beekeepers and increasing
levels of damage to bees' habitats from
pesticides.
This project aims to make owning a hive easy and cool, a household pursuit, and for organisations in the community, a symbol of environmental credential. The charities have a vision for urban beekeeping for the inner-city population, engaging the public in taking steps to tackle these climate change problems.
