25 May - G75 0HA - East Kilbride

Local East Kilbride resident, Christine Allan, is taking this weekend easy after winning £10,000 with People's Postcode Lottery. She was delighted when her postcode, G75 0HA, scooped this week's Saturday Street Prize. Playing with one ticket, Christine and her husband Stuart, who got married almost a year ago to the winning day, were still in shock at discovering that they had won the fantastic amount. Speaking about her win, Christine said: “It really is a weekend of celebrations. It was Stuart's birthday yesterday, it's our first wedding anniversary and now we've just won a fantastic £10,000.” The couple has been living at their postcode for 13 years, proving that the superstitious number isn't as unlucky as many would think. There are already plans underway that they will use their winnings to go jet-setting and visit their friends in Australia for the first time.

18 May - NE9 7HF - Gateshead

Two Gateshead residents from postcode NE9 7HF will be celebrating a great win this weekend after they both picked up a fantastic £10,000 thanks to People's Postcode Lottery. Judie McCourt, Street Prize presenter and local celebrity, was on hand to deliver the excited winners their cheques. First to get a knock on the door was Sylvia Johnston who was utterly surprised when her cheque for £10,000 was revealed. “I think it will take a few days for the news to really sink in, I just keep looking at the cheque,” said Sylvia. “I was just at home on my own when Judie arrived with the cheque so I phoned my husband John and daughter Andrea to let them know. I don't think they'll believe me until they've seen the cheque.” Next in line to receive a winning cheque was Derek Kell who was at home with his wife Isabelle. Isabelle said: “These past six months have been quite hard for us so this is just a lovely surprise and will really make things a lot easier.”

Ideas swap thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery. Two hardworking North-East charities, both supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery, have been working together to help improve each other's organisation. Children North East has been transforming the lives of disadvantaged children in the region for over 120 years, whilst Northumberland Wildlife Trust has been tirelessly protecting wildlife in Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside for 42 years. To date, the two charities have received a combined total of £816,332 from players of People's Postcode Lottery. Needless to say, without such support, their work would be so much harder.

Search Starts For Green Hero

New research has revealed that over 80% of the British population are taking active steps to reduce their personal CO2 footprint. This is good news in the light of damning evidence that the UK's CO2 emissions increased by 4.5% in 2012*. However, the research by Censuswide, on behalf of People's Postcode Lottery, also revealed that not all Brits are doing their bit. Whilst those most likely to be taking action are aged 35-44 years, those under the age of 24 don't seem to be doing anything at all to change their habits. 24% have made no effort in the last three years to lower their CO2 footprint. The research to identify what activity – if any – the general population was doing to lower their CO2 footprint is of great importance to People's Postcode Lottery as it launches its global Green Challenge competition today at Sustainability Live in Birmingham. The competition opens with the help of previous finalist and sustainable entrepreneur, Robert Matthams.

13 April - W5 2HS - Ealing

It's an easy win for Ealing this weekend, after lucky local resident Susan Stone scooped the Saturday Street Prize and picked up a cheque for £10,000. The fact that 55-year-old Susan has only been playing for one month certainly makes her win that little bit sweeter. Her lucky postcode, W5 2HS, has turned her £10 ticket into an unbelievable £10,000. “It's such a surreal feeling,” said Susan. “I felt quite spaced out when I first saw the amount on the cheque. I really didn't think I had won, I only signed up about a month ago. We've been playing other lotteries for ages and not won a thing."

Postcode Millions February 2013

It's certainly never dull in Hull -- something Hull resident, Elaine Lamping, can testify to. The local nurse won a "dream come true" £400,000 when HU1 3AH was revealed as the winning postcode in our Postcode Millions. Elaine, 51, from Dock Street, says she will be using the winnings to help with her eldest son's up-coming wedding and to pay for her younger son's postgraduate degree fees. "This is just something you dream about isn't it?", said Elaine. "Whilst we were waiting for the event to get started, we were stood trying to guess how much we could have won. And I can tell you now, none of us came even close to guessing £400,000."

30 March - TW12 3UX And DL9 4XR And EH7 4JR - Hampton And Catterick Garrison And Edinburgh

Today, a trio of big cash prizes has been won by lucky players in postcodes across Britain. For one Hampton family, the treats this weekend aren't just in the form of chocolate eggs, after father-of-two Neil Cassidy won £100,000. The family's postcode TW12 3UX scooped 37-year-old Neil and his wife, Laily, £100,000. What makes their Easter surprise even more incredible is that the couple has only been playing People's Postcode Lottery since the beginning of February. “There are so many things that we could use the money for, it's a fantastic amount,” said Neil. “We really do need to have a good sit down and think about how we want to spend it." Next up, we have three winners from Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. The trio, who all live on Churchill Drive, won £10,000 each after their postcode, DL9 4XR, was drawn as our first Saturday Street Prize. Next in line for a cash prize was Chris Murray, from East Claremont Street in Edinburgh, who won big in our second Street Prize of the day. Chris sadly wasn't at home to receive his cheque. However, his wife Mary was more than happy to discover that her husband, who has been playing with their postcode EH7 4JR since 2007, had won £10,000.

Maggie's Claim £15.5 Million

Maggie's claim £15.5 Million in benefits for people with cancer. Maggie's benefits advisory service helped access more than £15.5 Million in unclaimed benefits last year for people with cancer. The service was used by more than 14,000 people across the UK in 2012. It is the kind of support players of Postcode Lottery ensure Maggie's can continue to offer. Vital support that, in the light of last week's budget which saw many benefit cuts, is likely to prove even more crucial in the future in helping people through their cancer journey. Over the past five years players of Postcode Lottery have raised £2.4 Million for Maggie's. This money helps to ensure that the 14 Maggie's Centres across the UK can continue to provide their unique programme of support to people with cancer, their friends and family.

One lucky player from Bristol will certainly be bursting with joy this weekend after winning £10,000. Dawn Cleary, a teaching assistant from Belroyal Avenue in Bristol, has been playing with her postcode BS4 4RU for just over a year. Dawn is absolutely over the moon to have won the Saturday Street Prize. "I am definitely in shock,” said 42 year-old Dawn. “This is just the maddest thing that has ever happened to me, I don't know when it will sink in that I have actually won.”

Postcode Lottery players help new Kew Gardens scheme to protect UK trees. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is the latest organisation to benefit from funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery. £100,000 has been awarded to Kew's Millennium Seed Bank to develop a new initiative to protect the UK's trees – the UK National Tree Seed Project. Seeds from the UK’s trees and shrubs will be collected and banked in the vaults of the Millennium Seed Bank by scientists from Kew, partner organisations and volunteers. The Millennium Seed Bank, which is based at Wakehurst Place in Sussex, already safeguards practically the entire UK flora in its vaults and works to restore these native plants and trees to their natural habitats.

Players of People's Postcode Lottery are supporting the restoration of a lost Rembrandt with £100,000 of funding. The world's leading Rembrandt expert has just confirmed the National Trust's first ever Rembrandt in its collection of 13,500 paintings. The Dutch Master's self portrait has been identified hanging on the walls of Buckland Abbey in Devon. For the last forty years the painting’s provenance has been shrouded in mystery after Rembrandt specialist Horst Gerson and the Rembrandt Research Project (RRP) concluded that the portrait of Rembrandt was produced by one of Rembrandt’s pupils.

A local Hartlepool resident, Vincent Drew, has discovered this weekend that a £10,000 cheque certainly warms the cockles. The pensioner was keeping the cold of the snow away after finding out that his postcode, TS27 4NQ, had scooped him the Saturday Street Prize. 83-year-old Vincent from Shaftesbury Crescent was “feeling champion” after opening his cheque and learning he had picked up a big win. He was in such high spirits that he invited the People's Postcode Lottery team into his house and jumped on the piano to play them a tune!

There's only one thing on the mind of lucky Longhorsley winner, Tony Lewcock, who won £10,000 this weekend in the Saturday Street Prize and that's wheels – four of them in fact. The player has his eyes on a new car after his postcode, NE65 8UR, scooped him the fantastic £10,000 winnings. “I thought I'd won a bunch of bananas!” laughed 63-year-old Tony, who lives in Drummonds Close. “I have never won any money, I'm not that lucky. But it's certainly needed at the moment. “Living on my own the bills are quite high and my car has just broken down, which when you live a good while away from the local shops, is pretty important.”

Supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery, Maggie's Centres, has shown that nutrition plays a huge role in the support offered to people with cancer, along with their friends and families. For many people with cancer, eating is one of the few things that can still be controlled, and eating well can give someone a physical and emotional boost at any time on their cancer journey. Much of the same advice given to those with cancer could also benefit anyone looking to feel happier and healthier. We visited Maggie's Nutrition workshop to check this out. Click here to get the delicious chocolate cake recipe we baked which proved this theory.

Missing People Reuniting Families

Postcode Lottery support for Missing People helps reunite 1,000 families. Missing People offers a lifeline when someone disappears. They provide specialised support for those left behind to assist the search for their missing loved one and help end the heartache and confusion. Recently published statistics reveal that an estimated 216,000 individuals were reported missing to UK police forces in the year 2010-11 (National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) June 2011). However it is estimated that a staggering 250,000 people go missing each year (The Home Office, May 2010). People's Postcode Lottery players have provided over £1.9 Million in support to date to help the charity.

One lucky Hull resident will certainly be the happiest person in his street today after scooping a massive £10,000 with People's Postcode Lottery. Patrick Docherty, from Oban Avenue in Hull, has only been playing with postcode HU9 3NH since April 2012. Patrick is absolutely delighted to have won £10,000. “I am just absolutely gobsmacked,” said Patrick. “I have never won anything before in my life, I haven't been playing for that long and really didn't expect to win so this is just the best surprise. My wife and I only got married in February and she moved to Hull from the Philippines in July so this has been a really busy year for us both. This news just tops off what has already been a year of celebration!”

08 December - IP3 9AX - Ipswich

One lucky player from Ipswich enjoyed a weekend like no other, after winning the £10,000 Street Prize on Saturday. IP3 9AX in Ipswich was the lucky postcode drawn and had local player, Samantha Gardiner, jumping for joy. Samantha, who plays with just one ticket, was so surprised when she realised she had scooped the £10,000 - especially given the 39-year-old has been playing for less than a month. “Can you believe it?” she said when asked about her win. “It's so shocking – we've not even been playing for a month and I've already won,” said Samantha. “Everyone says that I'm lucky, I'm always winning at bingo as well, but I didn't believe it. But now I'm thinking maybe I am.”

Millions Heads To Conon Bridge

Christmas celebrations begin early for Conon Bridge residents. Players in Conon Bridge should be double-checking their postcodes this week, as locals have scooped £2 Million in the latest Postcode Millions draw. The winning postcode sector has been revealed as IV7 8 in Ross-shire. All Postcode Lottery players living in that postcode area set to win cash prizes. Those living in the full winning postcode – to be revealed at a private party on Saturday 29th December – will win the lion's share of the prize. Scotland has certainly had a good run of luck with the Postcode Millions having landed eleven times across the country since the Lottery began. Most recently, residents in Cupar walked away with a total of £2 Million in July this year. Residents of Thurso shared a staggering £2.1 Million in April 2010 and over £1 Million went to Balloch in March 2009.

Guide Dogs Charity Wins

Local charity secures £15,000 in online campaign. Local charity Guide Dogs for the Blind is the winner of this year's Vote that Counts in the North East, scooping a fantastic £15,000 funding. The charity beat five other charities working in the North East, including runners-up Percey Hedley Foundation and Daft As A Brush. The Vote that Counts is a free online and newspaper campaign, spearheaded by People's Postcode Trust. It challenged participating charities to achieve the highest number of free online votes from supporters in the North East to win a share of £30,000. Yet, it was Guide Dogs that secured 31% of the 11,000 votes cast to pip the other charities to the post and secure the £15,000 funding.

Local garden centre owners, Mary and Michael Jerome, are having a blooming good weekend after winning with Postcode Lottery. The green fingered pair from Bidford upon Avon scooped £20,000 when their postcode won the Saturday Street Prize. Yet, it wasn't their local Bidford postcode that won them a fantastic £10,000 per ticket. It was actually their old Trispen postcode, some 200 miles away in Cornwall. Speaking about their lucky old postcode, Mary said: “We've moved house quite a few times, so I kept this postcode. It's our old one and is obviously quite lucky. Can you imagine if we'd changed to our new one? It is such a marvellous feeling to have won. We've won a couple of things in the past, but I wouldn't say we are super lucky. I'm still absolutely gobsmacked.”

Team members from People's Postcode Lottery swapped office life for the great outdoors when they planted 1,000 native trees. The team's hard work created the Postcode Grove at Lang Craigs, in the Kilpatrick Hills near Dumbarton. The grove has been planted to celebrate the support you, the players of the charity lottery have given to the Woodland Trust Scotland. Carol Evans, director of Woodland Trust Scotland, and Annemiek Hoogenboom, Country Director of People's Postcode Lottery, also planted an oak tree together to mark the occasion.

Our New Office

This week we unveiled our brand new office in the heart of Edinburgh's city centre. People's Postcode Lottery, which employs over 80 people, has moved all staff members to a brand new office located at 76 George Street. The move will give us the opportunity to continue to grow team numbers, increase our presence in a bustling part of the town and, it is hoped, help the company to achieve its ongoing corporate social responsibility aims. Jo Bucci, Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be based in the city centre. The founders of the Lottery fell in love with Edinburgh and we're proud of the fact that the company has chosen to remain here. After five years, we're excited about what the next chapter holds.”

Today, with a Double Street Prize and a BMW up for grabs, we have even more happy winners celebrating. Life begins at 40 and for one lucky Forfar resident, life is looking pretty good at the moment. After turning 40 just a few months ago, Lynne Hamilton from Letham has got her hands on £10,000 and a brand new BMW 1 Series. Lynne works as an accountant at NHS Tayside. She couldn't believe her luck when her postcode, DD8 2XQ, was drawn as the first of our two Street Prizes. “Totally in shock, totally lovely, totally fantastic,” said Lynne. “Winning is completely unexpected. I've spent it three times over in my head, even though in reality I don't have a clue yet what to spend it on. We would love to go to Dubai – lots of my work colleagues have already been and the pictures looked fantastic. We've not had a summer holiday this year, so winning this would make it all possible, it's great.” Meanwhile, in our second Street Prize of the day, a player in postcode TD9 8LP in Hawick picked up another £10,000. Sadly, our lucky winner wasn't at home when the team popped along to present them with their cheque. But its not a problem as with People's Postcode Lottery, your winnings go straight into your bank account.

22 September - TS6 9LP - Middlesbrough

There were double the smiles in Middlesbrough this weekend when two local ladies scooped £10,000 each. Neighbours Ellie Felgate and June Siddaway were jumping for joy when their postcode, TS6 9LP, won the Saturday Street Prize. This netted the neighbours a total of £20,000. Ellie was delighted when People's Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, knocked on her door with her winning cheque. “It hasn't sunk in yet,” said Ellie, who is 38. “I want to go round hugging everybody!". But it wasn't just Ellie and her family who were over the moon at the draw landing in TS6 9LP. Just down the street, June Siddaway and her husband Neil couldn't believe their luck either. “At the moment it's not real at all,” said 50-year-old June. “I keep looking at the cheque Judie gave me and thinking it belongs to someone else. Ask me in a few weeks how the money has changed my life – the mist should have cleared by then! All I can say is that it's a wonderful surprise. You always think it will never happen to you – I did. But it can and I am proof of that! For as little as £10 a month you can win a life changing amount. Go on, sign up. Think of all the good causes you will be helping. You have nothing to lose and an awful lot to gain."

Boudewijn Poelmann and Frank Leeman, founders of the Postcode Lottery format, were today named Officers in the Order of Oranje-Nassau by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
The equivalent to the OBE in the UK, they received the royal honour from Joyce Sylvester, the mayor of Naarden, in the North of Holland. She praised their passion for charitable causes and their innovative entrepreneurship and leadership – qualities that have enabled them to create an organisation that has become the third largest private donor in the world.

Holidays are on the horizon for one resident of Kenfig Hill in Bridgend. This weekend, they've won £20,000 with their postcode in our Saturday Street Prize. Susan Roberts couldn't believe it when her postcode, CF33 6EB, was drawn. Her two winning tickets scooped her £10,000 each – and a brand new BMW to boot. “It is my dream come true!” said Susan. “I just can't believe it, we really never thought we would win. Something like this just doesn't happen to us – I bet everyone says that, but it doesn't. We've only been playing for about seven weeks.”
