Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance

Support from our players is invaluable in helping Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance to save time and lives.

By responding to trauma and medical emergencies, Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance is there for everyone in Scotland when they need them.

The purpose of Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) is to save and improve lives. It provides rapid emergency response capability by air and land, for patients who have experienced a time-critical emergency. It launched its first helicopter air ambulance (Helimed 76) in Perth, May 2013, and in April 2020, it doubled its capacity with Helimed 79 in Aberdeen. With two rapid response vehicles providing an additional valuable resource, SCAA is able to play a significant role in strengthening Scotland's Emergency Response Network.

Working closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and its aviation provider, it responds to trauma and medical emergencies across the whole of Scotland. No matter where the incident has happened, be that on the A9, on a hill side, at the patient's home, it will take its expert paramedic care to the scene, stabilise the patient and then transport the patient to the most relevant specialist hospital to receive the most appropriate advanced care. It also provides ground assistance to land crew ambulances, and transfers patients from remote island communities to more specialist hospital treatment on the mainland, saving hours by road and ferry.

It is there for everyone in Scotland when they need it. All beneficiaries will have experienced a time-critical trauma or health emergency. They can be of any age, from babies through to very elderly and frail patients.

The support from players of People's Postcode Lottery is invaluable in helping to keep SCAA flying, saving time and saving lives.
