Christmas is the season of giving. Everyone is busy buying lots of presents and treats to share with loved ones on Christmas day. But have you thought about putting an extra gift in your basket this year and donating to charity?
Children North East is running their successful Christmas Giving Tree Appeal again this year. They are asking everyone who can to take part and give children and families that are financially struggling a wonderful Christmas.
Donations of all types are, of course, welcome. However, the charity is hoping to get a good variety of presents (up to the value of £10), food parcels or monetary donations. Donating money can help fund fantastic experiences for children over the Christmas period.
With many families unable to afford the expense of Christmas, children can sometimes feel left-out. This is especially true in difficult school environments, where the pressure to always have the next big thing is incredibly high. Receiving one gift from you could really brighten up a child's Christmas Day.
Just £5 would buy an annual Nexus Pop Card that guarantees cut-price local travel for under 16s for a whole year; a £15 donation could pay for a sports activity for a young person and their Youth Link volunteer; or a wonderful gift of £150 would allow a group of 12 children to go bowling, to the cinema or visit the Centre for Life.
But even creating a food parcel would be a lovely treat for many of the children on Christmas day. Something as simple as a Christmas stocking or a wrapped box of chocolate delights is an extra expense that some families cannot afford in the current economic climate.
If you would like to support Children North East's Christmas Giving Tree Appeal with a monetary donation, please make all cheques payable to Children North East. Please ensure that any items in the food parcels are non-perishable.
All gifts should be posted to
