Players help Ndlovu Care Group run care and development programs in rural South Africa
February 3rd, 2015
Ndlovu Care Group is an innovative, award-winning community development group that has been operating in rural South Africa since 1994.
The Ndlovu model divides operational activities into two broad groups: Community Health Care and Community Development Programs.
As part of the Community Development Program, the Ndlovu's Children's Program cares for roughly 3,500 orphans and vulnerable children. This includes approximately 70 child-headed households in which roughly 200 children live. In child-headed households, both parents have died, leaving interdependent siblings to look after each other.
Ndlovu Care Group have received £275,000 in funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery to support numerous activities, including the improvement of the standard of living in rural areas, increasing awareness and education on health-related issues, early care-seeking behaviour and preventing more HIV infections.
In 2009, the Ndlovu Youth Choir was established. The choristers, who all hail from the very rural Limpopo community of Elandsdoorn, are all involved in the Ndlovu Children's Program and a few of the children even live in child-headed households.
As well as singing all over the world, the choir recently performed at the 2015 People's Postcode Lottery Charity Gala. Prior to their performance at the Gala, the choir headed to another player-supported charity, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, to show off their truly amazing vocal ability. The team were there to capture this special moment.Return to news archive
