Newport Nets Millions
Players in Newport set to share £2 Million windfall
October 6th, 2012
Players in Newport should be double-checking their postcodes this week, as People's Postcode Lottery has today announced that locals have scooped £2 Million in the latest October Postcode Millions draw.
The winning postcode sector has been revealed as NP20 3, with all People's Postcode Lottery players in the area set to win cash prizes. Those living in the full winning postcode – to be revealed at a local party on Saturday 27th October – will win the lion's share of the prize. Winners will be contacted from the end of next week onwards and will be invited to the Millions celebrations.
South Wales has certainly had its good run of luck. In April, 226 players in the town of Port Talbot, just 42 miles down the road from Newport, shared a fantastic £2 Million. With these two wins in just over six months, players in the region will have won a staggering total of £4 Million by 27th October.
However, it's not just the players who win with Postcode Lottery. Players have raised over £20.2 Million for good causes to date, including Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, which operates cancer support services across South Wales. The centres have received over £2.4 Million from players of the charity lottery. This funding has been vital to the fantastic work that the charity does every single day, including the centre based at the Swansea Singleton Hospital.
Maggie’s Centre Head, Debbie Horrigan said: “Everyone who visits Maggie’s South West Wales benefits from the support received from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. It has been an incredible year for us, not only as it’s our first birthday in December, but as we now have our purpose-built Centre we are able to offer so much more to help people with cancer in the area.”
Funding from players of the lottery also supports a variety of good causes all over the country. Over £230,000 has been awarded in Wales by People's Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by the players, including over £30,000 to projects in the NP postcode area.
Llamau, the leading Homelessness Charity for the most vulnerable Young People and Women in Wales, is one local charity to have received support from players. The team works hard to engage those at risk and provide the high level of support and understanding needed to allow vulnerable members of the public to live independently and as part of a community.
People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell said: “I am over the moon that the Postcode Millions has landed in South Wales again, who would have thought it after Port Talbot being so lucky just six months ago. It's such a great thought that everyone playing in the postcode, NP20 3, will walk away with a cheque from our Postcode Millions party on Saturday 27th October – it's as simple as that! A big congratulations to everyone, and I can't wait to meet all of the winners.”
We will reveal more details as to the location of the party – and the minimum amount won – shortly online and in the press.Return to news archive
