Systems Of Support

Our players are helping Alzheimer's Society to tackle loneliness and isolation during crisis
Alzheimer's Society frontline support services help grieving families, escalate safeguarding issues and assist people coping with the loss of their support networks

Alzheimer's Society is there for everybody affected by dementia. Whether that's someone with a diagnosis, or someone who cares for them, it supports people every step of the way.

Its comprehensive support begins from the point of diagnosis. Alongside this, the charity fights for people's rights to live well and receive high quality care, and invests in research that will change lives now and in the future. Until dementia is beaten once and for all, Alzheimer's Society is determined that everyone impacted by this cruel condition will have the support they need and deserve.

In the UK, 850,000 people are living with the realities of this relentless condition. And 700,000 people are caring for them, often alone, and to the detriment of their own health. The stark inequalities that people affected by dementia face often leave them feeling isolated and abandoned. Limited treatments mean that there is little to be done to make the progression of the condition easier to contend with. Support from players of People's Postcode Lottery is transforming this situation. This is helping to tackle loneliness and isolation, providing a much-needed support system for society's most vulnerable and helping to ensure that no one need face this condition alone.

Helping People Cope

Alzheimer's Society's frontline support services were the emergency service for people affected by dementia in the depths of the Coronavirus crisis. Dementia Advisers have supported grieving families, escalated safeguarding issues and helped people to cope with the overnight loss of support networks. Thanks to our players, they will continue to support everyone affected by dementia in the coming months and years, as they live with the fallout of this crisis.

Player support means people have somewhere to turn. Christopher, a carer, said,

"It was comforting and reassuring to know that there was an organisation which stayed in touch with me and asked how we were. It wasn't intrusive. It was just enough for what I needed. I know how much that meant to me. During the Coronavirus pandemic, I know so many people will be feeling isolated. I also know just how much the calls from Alzheimer's Society will mean to the hundreds of thousands of people affected by dementia. Thank you for your donation."

Now, it's more important than ever to stand alongside everyone affected by dementia. Alongside carers who have lost a loved one to Coronavirus during the crisis and want to talk about their experiences with others who understand. People in care homes who were separated from their loved ones for months and whose families want to make sure it never happens again. People who feel like they won't be able to overcome their loneliness, and need someone to turn to. This is alongside everyone who feels they have lost precious time with their loved ones that they will never get back.

Our players are helping Alzheimer's Society to provide support every step of the way.
