Last month, Postcode Lottery's Events Manager, Nicole Allan, joined five brave individuals as they took to the skies. Between them, they raised more than £4,500 for Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT).

Volunteering to throw herself out of a plane at a staggering 14,000ft, Nicole was helping YDMT in their bid to raise awareness of the challenges facing the Yorkshire Dales. The funding generated will also be used to bring their visions to life.

Yet, even though the jump was for such a good cause, it didn’t stop the nerves from setting in.

Looking out of the plane was the scariest moment ever,” said Nicole. “My tactic was simply not to think about it, but when we moved towards the door, there was no going back.

But it was amazing, and you could see all across the Grange-Over-Sands, as far as Morecambe Bay and Blackpool Tower,” continued Nicole. “It was a fantastic experience and I would tell everyone to have a go.

But she wasn’t alone in taking on the nerve-wrecking experience. Trustees and staff from YDMT, including Director David Sharrod, joined her in the sky-dive across the Grange-Over-Sands.

Their original target was to raise £1,500, and they smashed it by almost 200%, raising a fantastic £4,500 to date.

Speaking about his jump, David said: “I knew the hardest part for me would be overcoming all my instincts of self-preservation to actually jump out of the plane. The fact that I’m scared of heights made it all the more challenging!
