The National Trust looks after special places, forever, for everyone.
The National Trust looks after special places, for everyone, for ever. The National Trust is a conservation charity which protects the nation's heritage and open spaces.
Founded in 1895, the Trust looks after over 780 miles of the nation's coastline, 250,000 hectares of countryside, over 500 historic sites, and over one million objects - preserving them for the future and opening them for everyone to enjoy.
Players of People's Postcode Lottery have supported National Trust projects since 2013, raising over £3 Million to date. Players support two vital areas of the National Trust's work, including:
- Nature conservation, helping to restore a healthy, beautiful and natural environment, and
- Heritage Open Days England's largest festival of history and culture taking place every September, offering free access to over 5,700 events.
In 2020, players of People's Postcode Lottery are supporting the National Trust with £450,000 towards its nature conservation work and £300,000 towards Heritage Open Days. Players will provide much needed support of the British countryside in the form of Riverlands, an exciting programme of work to see five of the UK's most precious rivers revived. Players are also supporting two urgent nature conservation projects in Pembrokeshire and the Shropshire Hills. 2020 will be an important year for Heritage Open Days with players' support helping to open up more places to the public than ever before, all for free!
Players' support for Heritage Open Days in 2019 enabled more than 2 million people across the country to discover local cultural and historical treasures, many for the first time.
