Hurrah For Hyde

02 December 2021 - SK14 5AG - Hyde - £30,000

Eight neighbours from Hyde got into the festive spirit early when our Street Prize team knocked on their doors and presented them with golden envelopes. Their postcode SK14 5AG was today announced as a winner of our Street Prize.

Five of the residents each won £30,000, while the remaining three each scooped a sensational £60,000 as they played with two tickets.

On Cloud 9

Among our Hyde winners was Dorothy who netted a £30,000 cheque. Moments after People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt revealed her prize, she said, "I'm on cloud 9 or 10 or 11 or whatever. It's fabulous, I won't be able to eat my lunch now. It's a fortune."

She was quite overcome with emotion after initially doubting that she'd won at all. Dorothy exclaimed, "It's real!" She was joined for the surprise by her husband, Jim, and daughter, Juliette. Juliette embraced her mum and replied, "Yes, it's real mum, I told you it was."

Dorothy plans to spoil her family with her winnings at Christmas. She said, "It's just wonderful, my husband and I have only got our pensions and we've got children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. So, I can now buy them the stuff I want to buy them for Christmas."

Dorothy was delighted that many of her supportive neighbours had also picked up Street Prizes. She said, "I'm so happy to hear that others have won. My neighbours are all really lovely, especially as my husband has got dementia, they're all very caring and always ask if we're all right."

The great-grandmother is a cancer survivor who started playing People's Postcode Lottery to help support Charities, especially those close to her heart that support cancer and dementia. She said, "I've had skin cancer, so I feel very strongly about the research that needs to be done."

It Means The World

Lucky couple Elaine and Chris each landed £60,000. Elaine said, "It's amazing, it's just life-changing. It's just unbelievable, I've never had anything like this sort of money." Chris added, "It means the world."

The first thought on Elaine's mind was a holiday to Florida with Chris and their daughter Emily. She said, "I went to Florida when I was younger with my mum and dad. So, if I could do that for her, that would be amazing.

"I've got amazing memories of it as a kid, and I'd like her to have the same memories. It would be really special to be able to share that."

Elaine admitted that since her daughter was born, they haven't been able to do much travelling and are now both looking forward to going to Disney World. She added, "I took her to Disneyland Paris after we lost my mum. At the time she was very distraught and was only four years old, and grandma had been such a big part of our life. She loved the park and to be able to do that on a much bigger scale, she'll be blown away."

A Special Christmas

Neighbour Allister was another winner to pick up a £30,000 prize. He was out when our Lottery team came knocking, but his partner Georgia was able to accept the cheque on his behalf.

The windfall will certainly make the festive period even more magical. Georgia said, "It couldn't have come at a better time - it's just going to make Christmas a little bit more special and it's a lovely way to start the new year."

Georgia rang Allister to give him the good news. He laughed and yelled, "Yes, get in! Whoo-hoo!"

The mum-of-two said the prize money would be spent on spoiling their children and will also help fund travel plans. She added, "We can now book somewhere nice to go on holiday.

"We'll definitely buy lots of treats for the family. We have two girls, and they will definitely help us spend the money. They'll have a big list of treats as there's also something new that they are after."

Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt said, "What incredible news for the eight lucky winners in Hyde! I had a fantastic time knocking on Dorothy, Elaine, Chris and Georgia's doors. It was great hearing their plans for spending the money.

"Congratulations to all of the lucky winners! I hope they enjoy their prizes and treat themselves with the winnings."

Good Causes Everywhere

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust. This trust has a mission to educate, support and promote animal welfare and conservation. Supported charities include Cats Protection, Riding for the Disabled Association and PDSA.
