Nottingham And Ryde Are In The Money

02 May 2015
NG8 5FH - Nottingham - £2 Million
PO33 3NB - Ryde - £25,000

Players in Nottingham and Ryde are thrilled this weekend, as the April Postcode Millions has landed in NG8 5FH, and every ticket in PO33 3NB has won £25,000 in the Saturday Street Prize.

There were screams of delight in Nottingham as five lucky players each scooped whopping £200,000 prizes when their postcode, NG8 5FH, was revealed as the full winning postcode in the April Postcode Millions.

The five winners all played with the full winning postcode, which ensured they walked away with the lion's share of the prize pot. The Postcode Millions party saw 216 residents in winning postcode sector NG8 5 share £2 Million. Prizes ranged from £1,106 up to amazing £200,000 wins.

Malcolm Irvine, 67, has only been playing since March. He was shocked when his cheque for £200,000 was revealed. "I can't believe I won this much already after just one month - it's absolutely amazing."

Malcolm, a retired bus driver originally from the northeast of England, has the perfect plan for his recent cash boost. "My daughter Caroline, 31, is engaged, and we'd love to help her have her dream wedding," said Malcolm.

Malcolm, grandfather of two boys, attended today's celebration with his wife Rosemary. Rosemary described her delight at winning with all of her neighbours. "It's great that the whole community won. It's brought us all together and now we're all winners."

The Irvines don't have long to wait to celebrate their win as they are jetting off to France in a few weeks time for some fun in the sun. Malcolm said, "We're off to Brittany soon, so we'll be able to relax there and really think about what we're going to do with our winnings."

A second big winner, Anita Hodson, 42, has her friend Kirsty to thank for her recent win. Kirsty convinced her to sign up. "I'll definitely have to take my friend out for a large glass of wine now," said Anita.

Anita, mum to three girls and one boy, was absolutely gobsmacked when her £200,000 cheque was pulled from the gold envelope. She said, "I would have been delighted with £500, but this is just life-changing. I've no idea what I'm going to spend it on, but I'm sure my children and husband Paul will help me decide!"

Anita and Paul have recently bought a new house, but ironically it is their old address that scooped them this prize pot. Anita joked that perhaps they shouldn't be selling their old house now as it has proven to be so lucky.

A third lucky winner today was Julie Jones, 54, who celebrated her win with her daughter Jodie, 28. Julie has another daughter, Vickki, who currently lives and works in Russia as a tour driver, and a son, Lee. Julie couldn't wait to get in touch with her family to tell them about her win. Julie said, "My daughter Vickki said she would come home from Russia if I won big, so I'll hopefully be seeing her soon to celebrate."

Now that Julie, who works at family business Old Baseford, has won £200,000, she plans to move house. However, she hopes to stay in her local area, saying, "This postcode has proven too lucky for me to move too far away."

A further two of today's full postcode winners chose to remain anonymous.

Winner Sammie-Jo Garmston, 30, had already scooped £8,848 during today's party in Nottingham when she discovered she had also won a brand new BMW 1 Series.

Lynn Winfield, 55, who scooped a fantastic £4,424, had a bit of insight into her win before today's event. A recent trip to a local psychic predicted a lottery win. "I visited a psychic not long ago who told me that I had to sign up to play People's Postcode Lottery as I was definitely going to win. Thank goodness I listened to her!" said Lynn.

April has proven to be an extremely lucky month for Nottingham players, as it was just a few weeks ago that players from NG6 8DG scooped £1,000 per ticket in the Daily Prize.

Today's celebration saw a number of supported charities in attendance including Canal & River Trust, British Red Cross, Missing People, Girlguiding, and Book Aid International.

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt handed out the cheques to the delighted players. "It's been a lovely day here in Nottingham, and the reactions from all the winners have been phenomenal," said Judie. Judie continued, "I'd like to congratulate all of today's winners. I'm sure this will be a Saturday to remember."

Two players in Ryde, Isle of Wight, are delighted this week after their postcode, PO33 3NB, was drawn as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize.

Rod Cope was shocked to be presented with his £25,000 cheque by rugby legend and People's Postcode Lottery presenter Scott Quinnell. "I'm over the moon," said Rod.

Rod, 78, signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery earlier this year to support charities. Rod, who used to be in the Royal Air Force, is looking forward to celebrating with his family. "I would love to go on holiday with my win," he said.

There was one other winner in the postcode who was not available. Their cash prize will be deposited directly into their bank account.

It's not just players that win every day. Players have raised over £66.4 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One charity local to the Street Prize winners is the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, which is based on the Isle of Wight. The charity has been awarded £360,818 to date from players. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust works with young cancer and leukaemia survivors from all over the UK, using sailing to help them regain their confidence on their way to recovery.

People's Postcode Lottery Street Prize presenter Scott Quinnell said, "It was great being on the Isle of Wight today to meet our winner, Rod. He was delighted with his win. I’m sure charities local to Rod, like the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, are thankful for his support."
