Four Erskine players are delighted this week after winning £25,000 each when their postcode,PA8 6DB, was drawn as a winner in this week's Saturday Street Prize.
Evelyn Macdonald, 46, was shocked to see People's Postcode Lottery presenter Judie McCourt on her doorstep to offer her the cheque. Evelyn said, "I couldn't believe it when I saw the amount on the cheque. I still can't believe it is actually true."
Evelyn signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery in March, and now that's she's a winner, she has her own surprise in mind. "I have not seen my friend, Annette, for over two years as she lives in New York," Evelyn explained. "Now I have won this money, I can go to New York for the first time in 15 years and pay her a surprise visit."
Evelyn, who works in the ticket office at Bishopton Railway, signed up after her sister Shirley urged her to. "My sister and I are spending a long weekend in Livingston this weekend for a girly shopping spree. I'll have to treat her to something nice!" Evelyn laughed.
Susan Boyle, 67, is still in shock after being presented with her cheque. "This win has come at the perfect time," she said. "All of the main appliances in my house have broken at once, so I can replace them all now without having to worry."
Susan, a retired Auxiliary Nurse, would also like to treat herself and her husband, Matthew, 72, to a holiday in Florida. "We went to Florida seven years ago and have wanted to go back ever since," said Susan.
As well as replacing appliances in her home and going on holiday, Susan and Matthew have plenty of family to spoil. "I have three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who all deserve a treat," she said.
Susan signed up to support charities, and often takes her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to Lamont Farm to enable them to see farm animals up close. "The farm took in my daughter's pony so we go to visit it often. It is great knowing that, by playing People's Postcode Lottery, I am supporting many great causes like Lamont Farm," Susan said.
Catherine Montgomery, 69, was equally delighted to receive her £25,000 cheque. "It's absolutely wonderful," she said. "I can think of 101 ways to spend it."
Our final winner, Robert Boyd, 38, also won £25,000. "This is fantastic," he said.
People's Postcode Lottery Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt said, "I've had a great day in Erskine today handing out some nice big cheques. The winners were all delighted to win £25,000 each. One of the best things about People's Postcode Lottery is that you can win with your neighbours. I hope they all enjoy spending their winnings."
Players have raised over £69.2 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One project in Erskine to receive funding from players is Susan's favourite, Lamont Farm, which received £10,000 for their Outreach Demonstrations project.
Lamont Farm is a unique project which cares for a variety of animals within a city farm campus. For over 30 years it has provided thousands of children, families, and school parties the opportunity to see animals up close and learn about animal care. Initially, the farm was established to meet a need for local education and community facilities in Erskine.
Thanks to funding from players, the farm purchased a van, which enabled them to travel throughout the local community to give demonstrations in farming and environmental topics.
