Surprise For Shafton

19 January 2020 - S72 8WF - Shafton - £30,000

Ten shocked Shafton residents are celebrating after they have each won a whopping £30,000 with their lucky postcode. The Plumpton Park neighbours scooped the cash after S72 8WF was announced as the winner of today's Sunday Street Prize.

Over The Moon

One of our lucky winners was Andrew, whose partner Faye is due to give birth to a baby girl next month. Andrew and Faye have been together for 13 years after meeting at work. The couple, who both work as prison officers, are due to welcome baby Pippa into the world in February, so an extra £30,000 will come in very handy.

Andrew said, "I'm in shock, it's awesome! Faye and I are over the moon. We've just moved in recently and with the baby on the way it's come at the best time it ever could. We've already got a wee boy so with another on the way we need a new car. It will be a massive help!"

Helping Charities

Neighbour Rachel and her husband Malcolm were another happy couple collecting a cheque. Rachel said, "It hasn't sunk in and I don't think it will for a while! We've got a lot happening next year with big milestone birthdays. We wanted to do a few different holidays and were wondering how we'd do it, but now we don't have to worry.

"Obviously you have a chance of winning, but I signed up because of the charities. You get so many different ones and I never know which ones to contribute to. I thought this would be a good way to contribute a little but still have a chance to win."

Big Prize? You Bet!

David and his wife Jenny were also among today's Street Prize winners. David said, "I'm elated! We've wanted to get a new kitchen for ages and now we can."

The pair had a bet on with each other about how much they had won, with Jenny telling David not to get his hopes up. David said, "I thought it would be more than £1,000, but she bet me a pound it would only be £1,000!"

Jenny added, "I never thought I'd win anything so I'm gobsmacked. I can't think of anything else to say, I'm just so surprised!"

Other winners on the street included neighbours Gillian and Barry. Both are planning to spread the joy and help others with their cash windfalls. Gillian wants to help her daughter out and take a nice holiday while Barry plans to give money to each of his grandkids.

There were another five winners in the postcode who weren't available to receive their cheques in person. However, their prize money will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt was in Shafton to meet our winners and deliver cheques. Judie said, "A big congratulations to all of our winners! We didn't let the rainy day dampen our mood, but I don't think anyone receiving a big cheque would! With new babies and big birthdays, the money is definitely going to be put to good use, and I hope everyone enjoys spending their cash."
