Lucky Largs

29 May 2021 - KA30 8PX - Largs - £30,000

Welcome to the last week of our #30KADAY Street Prize bonanza! Each day in May's draws, right up until 4th June, every player in a winning postcode scoops a £30,000 cheque for each ticket they play with. Today, postcode KA30 8PX in Largs got lucky, landing one winner a fantastic £30,000 prize.

Absolutely Ecstatic

Lilian found out how much she'd won when she opened her golden envelope outside her hotel. She laughed and exclaimed, "Oh that's amazing! Thank you so much. Brill! I'm going to spend it now. I'm absolutely ecstatic to have won £30,000, brilliant."

Lilian and her husband Willie own their Largs hotel and have had a challenging time during the pandemic. Their win comes at a perfect time. She said, "It's been a very difficult 18 months for everybody in the hospitality industry not just us in a seaside town in Largs. When we were in lockdown last year it would have probably been our busiest months, whereas this year at least we're opened up for the summer." At one point the hotel hadn't served an alcoholic drink for 198 days, but the easing of the restrictions has meant they've welcomed back guests including rescheduled weddings.

The hotel owner plans to spend her windfall on a well-earned holiday next year to South Africa. She said, "It will certainly help with a holiday in January when we can hopefully get away somewhere. We might go back to South Africa because we like it so much.

"Camps Bay in South Africa is probably my favourite place in the world, but we went up to McGregor and the wine regions last time, it was fabulous, beautiful wine, a fabulous country."

The grandmother also intends to spread the good news and treat her daughters and grandkids. She said, "I just want to share my news now with everybody. I'm sure my girls will be happy. I think they have a few things lined up for spending the money."

Lilian hopes to celebrate her win with her family and neighbours at the hotel. She said, "There is a surprise party in here for a chap who doesn't live too far down the road, so we might be gate-crashing that as well - with the cheque of course."

Our visit to Largs followed social-distancing guidelines. Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt didn't attend in person but sent her congratulations. She said, "I'm over the moon for our winner in Largs! What a great way to kick off the weekend. I'm sure Lilian will enjoy treating her family as well as taking a well-deserved holiday to South Africa."
