A total of 258 People's Postcode Lottery players in Bishop Auckland's DL13 3 postcode sector have won themselves a share of a fabulous £3.1 Million prize in our July Postcode Millions draw.
The full winning postcode was revealed as DL13 3RG earlier today on Facebook. Mum-of four Rachel was the only resident playing with that postcode, and scooped one of our biggest ever individual jackpots. She received her very own knock on the door from People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt.
Never In A Million
As Judie unveiled a cheque for £378,075, Rachel exclaimed, "Oh my God! That's ridiculous, I can't believe that." But there was even more to come. Since Rachel plays with two tickets, she received a second golden envelope, bringing her total windfall to a stunning £756,150! She added, "That's incredible, I have no words. All the cliches! I'm dumbfounded.
"Never in a million years did I think this would happen, and for that sum of money - it's incredible."
Rachel, her husband, and their four children, only moved to the area in the last year, and she was keen to use some of her winnings towards home renovations. She said, "The house needed lots of work. We've got doors and windows to replace, we've got bathrooms to do, we want to maybe do the loft, and we're in the process of the garden. There's a lot to do and this will help!"
When asked if she had any other plans, she said, "I just want to put some money away for the children. A holiday would be lovely. Maybe a handbag - why not?
"We would love to island hop around Hawaii, that's always kind of been a bit of a pipe dream but we can do that now!"
Rachel, who's originally from Consett, also wanted to treat her family. She joked, "My daughter will be seven next month. She's going to ask me for a horse, isn't she?"
She already had reason to celebrate this weekend as she's attending a friend's wedding. She said, "I think we'll be buying the bride and groom a nice bottle of champagne!"
With hundreds of people in her neighbourhood netting a prize, Rachel expressed her delight for the community. She said, "We've only just moved to the village, but everyone is so lovely - we've been so welcomed. I'm really pleased. I hope everyone is as happy as I am."
Rachel was thrilled about the good causes supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery. She said, "I think it's such a brilliant concept, everyone can give a little bit and hopefully win something lovely and it's helping charities up and down the country. It's a wonderful thing to do."
Our remaining winners in the postcode sector received different amounts depending on the number of tickets they played with. Those with a single ticket won £8,341, and players with two tickets won £16,682. Two winners played with three tickets and won £25,023.
Judie McCourt shared her congratulations with all the winners. She said, "I'm always thrilled to bring good news to our winners, but as Rachel is from my hometown, Consett, it was a special treat for me to present her with this amazing prize!
"I couldn't be happier for her and I hope that she, and all our other winners in Bishop Auckland, have a fantastic time with their winnings."
