May Postcode Millions
Retired bus driver picks up £800,000 as May Postcode Millions lands in Kilsyth
One lucky Kilsyth resident scooped a cash windfall this weekend when their postcode, G65 9DG, was revealed as the full winning postcode in the May Postcode Millions.
Hugh Lundy, 65, plays with two tickets and found to his surprise that they were worth a whopping £400,000 each. Hugh collected an amazing £800,000 win. Hugh joined 98 other winners at the Postcode Millions celebration at Colzium House. The event saw residents in winning postcode sector G65 9 share a £2 Million prize pot. Prizes ranged from cheques for £2,169 up to an amazing £800,000. Hugh was the only player living in the full winning postcode, which meant he walked away with the lion's share of the prize.
Hugh attended the celebration with his wife Isabelle. Hugh said, "I'm absolutely ecstatic!” He continued, "I never dreamt in a million years that I would win something like this.”
Hugh, a retired bus driver, celebrates 37 years of marriage with Isabelle on 4th June. Thanks to their win it will be an even bigger celebration. "Other than meeting my lovely wife I'm not really a lucky person, so I can't believe I've won so much money.”
Hugh and Isabelle love visiting America and have already decided that they're going to head straight back to tour America in style. Hugh said, "I would love to get a chauffeur driven car and do the whole of Route 66.”
Isabelle, a retired mail room worker, described her excitement when Hugh pulled out the winning amount on stage, “It was so lovely seeing all my neighbours pull out their cheques but when my husband went up there and pulled out both those cheques I honestly thought I was going to faint.”
Hugh and Isabelle, who have a niece Gillian and a nephew Mark both in their 40s, have promised to treat their lucky relations. The lucky duo are also keen to share their new found wealth with a number of the charities that they have supported over the years. "We've played People's Postcode Lottery since the start,” said Hugh. "We started playing because of all the fantastic charities that are supported; I couldn't believe it when I heard today that over £41.5 Million has been awarded to good causes.”
Sector winner Audrey Matthews, 64, had already scooped £21,698 during the event in Kilsyth before discovering she had also won a brand new BMW 1 Series. Audrey said “I've got a bottle of Moet chilling in the fridge for me when I get home, this is the perfect excuse to pop the cork.”
Local Cumbernauld, Kilysth and Kirkintilloch East MP, Gregg McClymont, also joined the winners to share in their celebrations. "What a fantastic day for people in Kilsyth. It was great to see so many local people come together to celebrate their win and the remarkable range of good causes that each ticket helps to support.”
It's not just players like Hugh and Audrey who win by playing People's Postcode Lottery. As a charity lottery, over £41.5 Million has been awarded to good causes. The winners' celebration saw a number of charities in attendance including Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, Riding for the Disabled Association and Dogs Trust giving the charities a chance to thank winners directly for their invaluable support over the years.
This is the second time in six months that the Postcode Millions has landed in Scotland. In December, it was the residents of Ayrshire who shared the £2 Million prize pot. People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt was delighted to be back celebrating in Scotland. Judie said, “We had such a great time in Ayrshire at Christmas it's great to be back in Scotland. Congratulations to all winners!”
