Newport nets Millions as lucky players share £2 Million
Three certainly is the magic number for residents of Newport. A trio of lucky residents got their hands on almost £1 Million when their postcode, NP20 3BJ, won the Postcode Millions in October.
The lucky residents from Bideford Road in the South East Wales town, discovered their win amongst friends and family at a celebration held in the Newport Centre.
Yet it wasn't just the trio who won big. A further 39 postcode sector players won their share of the total £2 Million prize fund, each walking away with cheques ranging from £3,130 to £62,600.
A newly qualifed nurse won £333,333 in the Postcode Millions draw. Jacqui Howell, 41, discovered her good fortune at the winners party.
Mother of four Jacqui only recently qualified as a nurse and starts her new job next Monday. She said of her win, "It's a new life for us. I can't tell you how difficult the last few years have been for us all while I was studying at university. Money has been so tight, and the kids have gone without, so now I will be able to spoil my family, cut down my extra hours and be at home more often."
Husband Dave, 43, a deputy manager at Newport homeless hostel Solas, said of his wife, "I really think she is wonderwoman. For the last five years, she has been working night shifts at the local nursing bank, then going to university and studying for the day, before coming home and being a mum."
Daughters Lara, 17, Gabrielle, 14, Sienna, 7 and Freya, 7, were also at the winners party on Saturday to see the moment their Mum scooped one of the largest prizes at the event.
Howell, who was due to start her role at a learning disability home in Penhow next Monday, already has great plans on how they will spend their surprise win. She said, "We haven't had a beach holiday for seven years, so we would love to take the girls to Kenya, where Dave and I got married 12 years ago.”
Husband Dave added, "It was our anniversary two days ago, and we had no money to celebrate it. This win changes everything. Every day is a struggle at the moment. Now we can pay off our mortgage, and all our debts."
Howell was one of three people

In a final surprise of the day, sector prize winner Tannya McMichael-Bratt, who earlier in the day won £21,910, was brought back onto the stage to be presented with the keys to a brand new BMW 1 Series.
This is the second time that the Postcode Millions has landed in Wales in the last six months. In April, players living in a Port Talbot postcode discovered they had also shared a whopping £2 Million prize pot.
X Factor 2009 finalist, Danyl Johnson, entertained the guests at the party with live performances of some covers of popular chart music.
Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £20.7 Million for good causes across the country. Missing People, Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres and Wildlife Trusts Wales were all in attendance at the event to thank the players for their continued support. Ambassador for People's Postcode Lottery and rugby hero Scott Quinnell said, "Postcode Millions events are always special, but when it is in my homeland it is that extra bit exciting! Jacqui, Dave and their family have had a tough few years, and I'm thrilled that this is the start of something new for them."
