Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Wolverhampton

Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Wolverhampton

Homelessness is a visible and growing problem in the UK today. Sadly, Wolverhampton is no exception. It's easy to feel detached from the issue of homelessness, but the reality is that it could happen to any one of us. Mental illness, loss of a job or the breakdown of a relationship are among the most common triggers of homelessness - things that can strike anyone at any time.

Why Volunteer For A Homeless Charity In Wolverhampton?

While homelessness has been on the rise across the country, serious progress is starting to be made within Wolverhampton, on a local level. This is thanks to some of the great homelessness charities that operate within the city.

All of these organisations are on the lookout for willing volunteers, to help with identifying those in need, providing first-hand support and carrying out admin work. Find out more about some of the charities below, and discover how you could help.

Homeless Charities In Wolverhampton That Need Your Help

Wolverhampton Church Shelter

Wolverhampton Church Shelter is a fantastic organisation which provides a place of rest for the city's rough sleepers. Located at the TAB Church on Broad Street in the city centre, its base is just one part of Wolverhampton's Pathway of Hope. This scheme is dedicated to identifying those in need and helping them to find a pathway out of homelessness.

The charity states that as little as £10 enables it to give a homeless person a bed for the night. Open seven days a week, it's always on hand to provide the city's most vulnerable with somewhere warm and safe to stay.

Wolverhampton Church Shelter may be looking for volunteers, particularly those who can assist the overnight teams between the hours of 8:30pm and 7am. Anyone who does agree to help can get a few hours' sleep in that time, should they need it. If you have experience with night shift work or don't mind helping at unusual hours, get in touch.

St George's House

This homelessness charity in Wolverhampton is dedicated to helping vulnerable men in the area, particularly those who are living on the streets. Founded in 1973, it has a proud history of supporting marginalised men through issues like poor health, substance abuse, offending behaviour, self-harm and suicide.

It operates out of its base, St George's HUB, in central Wolverhampton. This acts as a safe space for men to address their problems, to develop confidence and begin building aspirations. In addition to this, the organisation works hard to change society's perceptions of these vulnerable men, and the perception the men have of the world around them.

St George's House have a variety of volunteer positions available, that can be explored through the website. The charity would like potential volunteers to let them know of any particular skills they have, which they can then match to any vacancies.
