Our friends at Children North East recently received a cheque for £78,144. They have asked us to pass on a big thank you on behalf of all the children, young people and families they support.
We have raised over £345,300 for Children North East to date – and we couldn’t have done it without you.
That money is making a real difference to some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children in the North East of England. Children like Jamie, whose life has been turned around thanks to projects paid for by you.
Jamie moved to Gateshead with his mum after they ran away to escape from her violent boyfriend. Jamie didn’t know anyone in his new school. He supported a different football team and spoke with a different accent. He missed his old friends and was worried about his mum.
His teacher suggested Jamie join a Children North East Friendship Group at his school. These small groups are for children who seem unhappy or isolated in class. They meet once a week during school hours to play games and do craft activities.
Jamie soon made friends and started doing better in class. He even got 100% in a maths test. A project worker also helped Jamie’s mum to sort out her debts and put her in touch with a counsellor.
Children North East’s Friendship Group project costs £75,000 a year to run. The money you have helped raise just by playing People’s Postcode Lottery will be used to help more children like Jamie to achieve their potential.
