Players Support Battersea
Battersea Ambassador Amanda Holden thanks players for grant
July 9th, 2014
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has today welcomed its largest ever grant of £125,000 raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery. The award was presented to Battersea's Chief Executive, Claire Horton, and special guest Amanda Holden, who is an Ambassador for the charity. They were joined by some of Battersea's hopeful canines who are looking for new homes.
Support from our players will enable the world-renowned animal charity to continue taking in dogs and cats in need of help, and nurture and care for them until new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes.
Amanda Holden, Battersea Ambassador, said, "As an Ambassador for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, I'd like to say a huge thank you to players of People's Postcode Lottery for supporting these gorgeous dogs and cats. I've always loved Battersea and I'm passionate about the incredible work they do for abandoned animals. The care and commitment staff and volunteers show the animals that come into the Home is incredibly heart-warming and thanks to this funding from players, Battersea can continue to find lost, unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats the permanent, loving homes they really deserve."
Claire Horton, Chief Executive at Battersea, said, "Every year we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome lost, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats at our three centres, here in Battersea London, Old Windsor in Berkshire and Brands Hatch in Kent. Last year we cared for almost 10,000 animals, an average of 14 dogs and 6 cats coming in each day, looking for a second chance in life. Without Battersea, these animals would simply have nowhere else to go but thanks to the fantastic support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, we can continue to provide them with the love, care and attention they need to start over again."
Since it was founded over 150 years ago, Battersea has rescued, reunited and rehomed over 3.1 million dogs and cats. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers and it's very own clinic facilities, Battersea cares for thousands of animals each year until new homes can be found for them.
Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People's Postcode Lottery, said, "I am delighted that players of People's Postcode Lottery are able to support Battersea Dogs & Cats Home with the fantastic sum of £125,000. As a nation of animal lovers it made perfect sense that players of People's Postcode Lottery would support this wonderful charity. This funding will ensure that the amazing staff at Battersea can continue to care for Britain's beloved animals."Return to news archive
