Postcode Millions

Moolah For Middlesbrough

01 April 2023 - TS5 7AT - Middlesbrough - £10.2 Million

A total of 572 Middlesbrough residents are celebrating after their postcode area, TS5 7, shared a £10.2 Million prize in March's Postcode Millions draw.

Seven winners scooped an incredible £379,418 each after TS5 7AT was revealed as the full winning postcode. The remaining 565 residents in the area received cheques ranging from £12,050 to £72,300, depending on how many tickets they played with.

The winning amounts were revealed at a special event in Middlesbrough's Centre Square with musical entertainment provided by boy band Five.

Our winners included:

  • Mark, a truck driver, grandad and former army sergeant, who plans to buy fish for his pond and take a dream holiday to Hawaii.
  • Anne, a grandmother, who wants to visit her family in Australia and fly business class for the first time.
  • Brian, a pensioner and grandad, who plans on buying a motorhome with his wife Karen after tough year with family cancer diagnosis.
  • Elaine, a mum and former foster parent, who has a fortune teller to thank for predicting her big win.
  • Emily, a mum to a baby daughter, who plans to pay off her dream wedding in France.

It's Life-Changing

Mark thought he'd bagged a tidy sum of £12,050, only for his full postcode to be revealed as the biggest winner, which netted him a whopping £379,418. Check out Mark and wife Angela's incredible reaction (opens in a new tab) after their postcode was revealed on the big screens.

Mark said, "You only dream of money like this, it doesn't actually happen to working people but I guess it's happened to us. It's life-changing.

"I can't describe how I was feeling when I found out our street had won, I just started laughing and my wife just started crying."

Mark is going to make a rather unusual first purchase with some of his winnings before booking a few sunny getaways. He said, "I'll buy some new Koi carp for my little pond in the back garden.

"The wife and I are going to upgrade to business class for our holiday to Cyprus.

"Our dream holiday is Hawaii, so that's getting booked!"

Mark, who's an ex-army sergeant, said, "We're just working-class, I work really long hours, so this money will mean I can cut down my hours. And we'll give a chunk of cash to our kids and grandkids."

Flying High

Neighbour Anne felt like she was walking on air after winning her £379,418 cheque. She said, "I'm floating. I still haven't come down from the ceiling.

"I'm walking about three feet off the floor. It's just the most amazing buzz."

Anne is now arranging to fly in style to Australia to visit her daughter. She said, "We haven't seen our daughter and grandkids in over four years because of COVID and everything. With this cheque it won't be another four years, that's for sure. We can fly business class, which is something we've never been able to do.

"We'll be able to look after our family, look after our grandchildren and look after ourselves."

Thought It Was A Joke

Brian was shellshocked after Judie McCourt revealed his £379,418 windfall. Brian said, "Bloody hell! This just doesn't happen to us.

"I keep thinking, 'Is this an April Fool's joke?'"

Brian's wife Karen said their win had lifted their spirits after a heart-wrenching period. She explained, "We've had such a tough few years because four family members currently have cancer. My sister and my brother both have terminal cancer and it's just been so hard. So, to get something good for a change is just amazing.

"This is the stuff dreams are made of."

The grandparents, who've been together for over 40 years, already had their dream purchase in mind. Karen said, "We've always wanted to get a motorhome but couldn't afford one. I gave up going abroad years ago because we've both got trouble with our legs, but we love to travel around Britain.

"It's a bit difficult getting up and down the stairs in our house, so we might convert the house."

A Supernatural Prediction

Another winner, Elaine, had a clairvoyant to thank after scooping a £12,050 cheque. Elaine, a former foster parent, said, "The fortune teller predicted I was going to come into a significant amount of money. I'd just cancelled the Postcode Lottery. A few days later I reinstated the ticket. I can't thank the clairvoyant enough - without her I would have missed out.

"I will be spoiling my family and taking my daughters to Fuerteventura."

Big Wedding Plans

£24,100 winner Emily said her dream wedding to fiancé Matty is now all but paid for. She said, "It's absolutely massive. It'll pay for our wedding in France next year."

The Middlesbrough mum is currently on maternity leave and started playing with People's Postcode Lottery in December. Emily said, "I signed up because I didn't want to go back to work after maternity leave.

"I signed up to hopefully win, and lo and behold it's happened. I can't believe it."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt was at the event handing out cheques. She said, "It's been an absolutely incredible day here in Middlesbrough and it was amazing to see so many neighbours, friends and family celebrating their big cash wins together.

"I'm already excited for our next Postcode Millions at the end of the month, where we'll be giving away £3.2 Million to another postcode area!"

Good Causes Globally

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Children Trust (opens in a new tab), which funds charities that inspire and support children and young people to make the most of their lives and opportunities within their communities. Organisations that benefit include Young Lives vs Cancer, Magic Breakfast, and Whizz-Kidz.

Local good causes have also benefited from player support. Eden Place was awarded £20,000 last year to help disadvantaged groups in Middlesbrough through the provision of advice, education support and training.

At People's Postcode Lottery, 33% of the ticket price goes directly to Charities, and our wonderful players have raised more than £1 Billion for thousands of good causes across Great Britain and beyond.
