Yeadon Strikes It Lucky

Two players from Yeadon in Leeds are overjoyed this weekend after their postcode, LS19 7XB, was drawn as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize.

Lisa Druett, 45, couldn't believe it when she was surprised by People's Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt. Judie had an amazing £50,000 cheque for Lisa. "This is a real surprise," she said. "I can't believe I've won so much."

Lisa, who plays with two tickets, is still coming to terms with her win. However, she has a good idea on how she is going to spend some of the money. "I've always wanted to go to Indonesia where my partner, Jamie, has family," she said. "I never thought I'd be able to take my partner and son Jacob, 18, but now I will be able to book for next year."

Lisa, who runs a theatre school, decided to sign up to support charities. "It's so easy to play and I really like that I am updated regularly on supported charities," she said. "It's really nice to see where my money is going."

As well as her dream trip to Indonesia, Lisa would also like to treat her son. "Jacob would like driving lessons so I can arrange that," she said. "He also deserves a holiday after his exams."

Neighbour David Sands was also delighted when he was presented with his £25,000 cheque. "It's fantastic! I couldn't believe there were only two of us who played in the postcode," he said. "I've already talked to some of my neighbours and have encouraged them to sign up."

David, 61, who plays with one ticket, has some big celebrations to look forward to this year. "My wife, Linda, turns 60 in July so I've decided to take her to Barbados," he said. "It's also our 10 year anniversary later in the year so we'd love to go to back to Vegas where we got married. We might book to see Celine Dion while we're there."

David, a retired public service employee, has plenty of people to spoil with his win. "Linda and I have five children between us, eight grandchildren and one on the way," he said. "Our family are due a party since we had a quiet wedding. We'll have a celebration soon."

People's Postcode Lottery players have raised over £66.4 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One charity local to today's winners is the Leeds Baton Rouge Majorettes Troupe, who were awarded £500 by players of People's Postcode Lottery. The troupe used the award for their Senior Pom Team and holds training sessions to provide an enjoyable form of exercise as well as helping young people develop confidence.

People's Postcode Lottery Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt said, "I really enjoyed being in Leeds today and meeting the two winners. It sounds like they both have some fantastic ideas of how to spend their winnings and I hope they have fun doing so."
