£1 Million Prize

Chesterfield Millionaire Street

26 October 2024 - S41 8QT - Chesterfield - £1 Million
Today's Millionaire Street prizes have landed in Chesterfield!

A KIND-hearted company boss has vowed to give all his staff a £1,000 bonus after winning People's Postcode Lottery.

An emotional Chris Dell broke down as he made the pledge to his ten employees after being presented with a bumper £100,000 cheque.

The self-storage firm owner, of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, said: "I'm going to treat the staff at work, especially with that amount because we're a close team and it would be nice to put a smile on their faces.

SPREAD THE LOVE: Company boss Chris vows to share his prize with his staff

"We've got ten people in the team and £10,000 of it will go to them. They'll get £1,000 each. People might say, 'Why would you do that?' It's because we are a team.

"The team that we have helps grow the business and I'd like to think if you look after the company, the company will look after you."

Chris celebrated his windfall with 17 neighbours in Chesterfield after S41 8QT bagged today's weekly Millionaire Street prize. Every ticket was worth £50,000, but Chris and nearby neighbour Tracy Moulton doubled their prizes with two tickets.

Chris was left stunned when he saw the size of his windfall but believes in spreading his good fortune.

He said: "I don't think I'm greedy - if I get lucky then I always think you should make someone else smile. Spread that love, spread that happiness. Let's not be greedy and share it.

"It's nice to know that local charities will be helped as well. With that amount that can mean such a lot to a lot of charities.

EMOTIONAL: Chris can't believe his win, presented by Judie McCourt

"I'm absolutely over the moon. I haven't really slept since I got told I had won something. I'll take a few friends out for a nice meal - an Indian or a steak and a bottle of champagne. I might have a headache tomorrow."

But he will treat himself, too. He added: "I'll have a holiday somewhere nice and warm. Most probably Benidorm. My best friend lives in France and he'll be coming too."

Tracy Moulton told us how she joined Postcode Lottery after hubby Mark's ex-wife won £25,000 seven years ago in nearby Hollingwood, Derbyshire.

And she signed up for a second ticket two years ago when the mother-in-law of one of Mark's daughters doubled her £30,000 prize to £60,000 with two tickets in Old Whittington, less than three miles away.

Now the communications support worker, who works with the deaf, has completed the family golden triangle with her £100,000 windfall.

WAKE-UP CALL: Excited Tracy and Mark hadn't slept since 4am

Tracy - who shares seven children and two grandchildren with Mark - said: "We signed up primarily because Mark's ex-wife won the lottery.

"Then two years ago the mother-in-law of one of Mark's daughters won £60,000. She had never played and just bought two tickets and won right away in Old Whittington. We upped our tickets to two when she won."

Mark, a digital print press operator and graphic designer, said: "They're all within five miles of us."

The couple shared a kiss after being left gobsmacked when they pulled their cheque from their golden envelope.

An excited Tracy said: "Oh my God, thank you so much. We've been up since 4am this morning. We can't even win on a tombola.

"Our lives have just changed totally in five minutes because we've won. I kept saying to everyone that I was saving myself for a big win. This is once-in-a-lifetime."

Mark said: "We thought it would be nice if we won £30,000 and doubled it to £60,000. It is unbelievable how much we've won - amazing. We'll be able to do so much."

Now the couple are planning more mountain-biking adventures - once Mark upgrades to a top-of-the-range bicycle to match Tracy's new E-bike. And new shoes for Tracy.

Tracy said: "I've got an E-bike that I bought this year. Mark's always complaining that I leave him for dust when we go mountain biking.

SADDLE DO NICELY: The couple are planning mountain biking adventures

Mark laughed: "I'll be puffing and panting up hills and she just sails past me. My dream would be to get a Cannondale Moterra SL."

Tracy said: "I'll buy some new Doc Martens." Mark added: "You love your Doc Martens, don't you sweetheart?"

And there might be a treat for Mark's parents Ed and Kate Moulton.

Tracy said: "We're going to look at taking them on holiday next year." Mark added: "Dad loves Corfu, but we'll be looking at something a bit different."

The pair had also chosen an unusual way to mark their win.

Tracy said: "We'll celebrate with bacon butties and wine." She added: "It feels amazing winning with the neighbours."

Along the street, Kate Innes said winning £50,000 was surreal, but was glad she shared the £1m prize with so many neighbours.

Kate exclaimed: "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh, I'm shaking! Thank you so much. That is legitimately crazy. I've been trying to remain as calm as possible. It just feels so surreal and incredible.

"For something that does a lot for good causes and for someone like me to benefit from that is just crazy. I can't believe it has happened. It's an incredible amount of money just to even contemplate.

JUST WIN-DERFUL: Kate and fiancé Paul were stunned by their cheque

"I'm just so chuffed for everyone else who plays. I'm so incredibly happy for the neighbours. The level of the win is going to be able to make some people's dreams absolutely come true."

Kate and scaffolder Paul Rothwell - who have been engaged for 13 years - already have big plans for the future, but said the win will turbo-charge them.

Daredevil Paul has booked a wing-walking experience to mark his birthday in January.

And the couple are also set for a hiking holiday in Austria next year. But they have always dreamed of touring America in a recreational vehicle (RV).

Kate said: "We'll set ourselves up for the future. Probably a nice holiday."

Paul said: "We have got a longer plan to go touring round America in an RV. We were planning it anyway. The dogs are quite elderly and it'll be when they're gone.

ONE HOL OF A PRIZE: Cash will boost vacation plans for Kate and Paul

"That's the plan: four weeks across America - California to Texas. All the national parks - Yosemite, Sequoia - Vegas, Grand Canyon, then onto Utah, Colorado and down to Texas. It might be eight weeks instead of four now."

He added: "We weren't even considering this amount. I thought it would be a £30,000 Street [Prize]. Even if it was £1,000 it would be a bonus. This might liven up the street a bit."

Kate, a veterinary practice manager, was delighted local charities will also benefit from their street winning - with some organisations getting funding boosts.

She said: "We've seen quite a few of the charities that People's Postcode Lottery supports. The social media posts regarding Guide Dogs - we work quite closely alongside those guys. It's really nice to see the effects this will have on the wider community, not just ourselves here."

She added: "I'll go and have a strong cup of coffee to calm my nerves and then head back to work. I might get my partner to drive me. I'm not driving because my hands are still shaking. I'll be a passenger princess today.

"It's just this bubbling feeling of nerves, anxiety. Now it's happened, it's real. I don't know if I've got the words necessary to convey how I'm feeling."

A few doors down, swimming teacher Paisley Caudwell and her fiancé Darren Turner were floating on air after Judie revealed her £50,000 windfall.

The couple - who share twin daughters, two other girls, and a son - now aim to accelerate their house-move plans.

Paisley said: "It's fast-tracked everything, our future plans. It'll go towards a deposit while we save a bit more or we find something that works.

ON THE HOUSE: Paisley and Darren will accelerate home-move plans

"We need something bigger for the kids, a little bit of space for them when they start getting older. Now it feels real and we can do it. It's massive - it is life-changing.

"We'd like to stay around here and move closer to our mums because they help us with childcare.

"They are amazing, and we don't want to unsettle the kids by moving to different schools or nurseries.

"We'll be signing up with our new postcode, too."

She added: "It's nice for our street to celebrate together. It's a happy street for us all today - and a lucky one."

Darren, a production manager at an iron foundry, said he'd been scouring houses for sale for days.

He said: "I've been looking at houses all week. It's difficult nowadays to buy a house especially when you've got five kids."

And Darren has hinted that Paisley should add some extra sparkle to his birthday celebrations next week.

He laughed: "Paisley can treat me to a good birthday present. We can celebrate properly in Liverpool next month, the first time we'll be away from our 14-month-old twin daughters since they were born."

HAPPY COUPLE: Paisley and Darren look forward to the future

Paisley said: "It's a busy house but we wouldn't have it any other way, and we're both busy at work, too.

"The kids all get spoiled anyway but now they'll get even more for Christmas. The 11-year-old is all into her designer stuff now, so it's not cheap."

Darren told us how he turned detective to try and find out how many other people in the street played Postcode Lottery by whistling the Let 'Em In tune.

He said: "I started whistling the Postcode Lottery tune on the street because I didn't want to just walk over and ask my neighbours if they played the lottery.

"Everyone at work is fed up of me singing that song in the office."

Paisley added: "We've even got the little ones singing it."

Bubbly Becky Aspinall laughed as Judie revealed her big cheque. She'll spend her money on her two daughters and some home improvements.

Gripping her £50,000 cheque, the mum-of-two said: "We'll have a holiday and then I'm going to get my drive done. Then when I win next time and you come to my door, the drive will look better.

GOSH & BECKS: Mum plans to treat her daughters

"My oldest daughter will want driving lessons. She's 17 in January. The other one will want trainers.

"The kids want to go somewhere they've never been before, but it's narrowing it down. They're looking between Portugal and Croatia."

Becky, who works for a financial advisor's firm, added: "It's nice to see people that live on the street. This is not something you do every day."

Water worker John Lawson waved his £50,000 cheque as he hailed the community win.

John - who shares two kids and two grandchildren with partner, care support worker Sally Hebdige - said: "The community has got it - happy days! Everyone has a share in it, and obviously the charities."

He added: "We'll have a holiday and we'll probably be getting a phone call from the grandkids. We like Fuerteventura. It would be nice to put a down payment on a place."

Brian Gregory is eyeing a set of custom golf clubs with his £50,000 - before wife Lynn, and daughter Elisha, hit him with their wish lists.

BIG SPENDERS: Brian and Lynn have wish lists for their winnings

The maintenance engineer said: "I'm going to get golf clubs fitted. I normally get them online, but I'll go to a pro golf place and see what suits me.

"My daughter will be very happy. We're helping her move out."

Lynn laughed: "I'm having a new wardrobe full of clothes, handbags, shoes, perfume. And I'll buy my daughter exactly the same.

"He may buy one golf club."

Brian added: "It's good to win with neighbours - I'm pleased for everyone. It's a nice, quiet area."

The winners all joined Postcode Lottery to support local, national and international charities.

WINNING TOGETHER: Neighbours celebrate scooping prizes

And one local organisation - Pathways of Chesterfield - has been awarded £50,000 by Postcode Community Trust.

Serving Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and Bolsover areas, the charity aims to support individuals affected by homelessness and those at risk of losing their homes.

The charity offers a wide range of services, including rehousing support, specialist mental health nursing, activity groups and recovery support. It supports over 800 local people each year, reaching all corners of society.

Sian Jones, CEO of Pathways of Chesterfield, said: "Due to the cost-of-living crisis and increasing employment instability, many who previously weren't affected by homelessness are now just a few pay cheques away from losing their homes."

SUPPORTIVE: Pathways office manager Lauren Roberts and the team

Pathways of Chesterfield has created a warm, inclusive space in their offices to assist those most in need with immediate, practical support.

It's run by a dedicated team of volunteers and full-time staff, with some team members having transitioned from being service users to playing integral roles in the organisation.

Sian added: "The £50,000 we've been awarded is just incredible. It will help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for another year, supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community."

Other local organisations awarded funding include:

  • Chesterfield FC Community Trust - £50,000 Providing a variety of sporting, educational and community-based activities in Chesterfield and across North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and parts of Derbyshire Dales.

  • Relate Chesterfield and North Derbyshire - £50,000 An emotional wellbeing charity committed to improving the mental health, emotional wellbeing and relationships of people. They provide counselling and support for a range of issues.
