Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Luton

Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Luton

Being cold, hungry and alone is a situation that none of us would ever wish to experience. Unfortunately, it's a reality for so many people around the world who have become victims of homelessness. It's a growing issue here in the UK, especially in towns and cities.

Why Volunteer For A Homeless Charity In Luton?

In 2016, Luton was named as one of the worst locations for rates of homelessness in the country. While some work has been done to reverse the worrying numbers of rough sleepers in the area, there's still so much more that needs to be done.

By showing your support for a homeless charity in Luton through volunteering or fundraising, you'll not only be giving back to your community, but may even help someone transform their life. Take a look at the organisations below for opportunities in the area.

Homeless Charities In Luton That Need Your Help

NOAH Enterprise

NOAH is one of the largest homeless charities in Luton that's dedicated to providing the most disadvantaged people in the area with brighter futures. It was originally started up in 1987 by Sister Eileen O'Mahony, who offered shelter to Luton's homeless in a block of disused flats.

Fast forward 30 years and NOAH not only provides housing support but a range of welfare services and employment training schemes. It works with health organisations and other groups to give comprehensive care to the homeless, as well as doing outreach on the streets of Luton.

As well as the welfare centre on Park Street, NOAH also has a charity shop and furniture store that raise funds for the organisation. Both are always in need of donations as well as volunteers to take on regular shifts.

You could also offer to give up your time helping in the centre's kitchen preparing meals, join the outreach team or become a mentor for a homeless person in need.

Luton All Women's Centre

The Luton All Women's Centre is a player-supported charity that offers help to vulnerable women in the Luton area suffering from a range of issues, from domestic abuse to those at risk of ending up on the streets. It's run entirely by women and aims to provide a safe haven for females of all ages and backgrounds to receive one-to-one support as well as counselling, mentoring and advice.

The charity also tries to prevent issues from occurring in the first place through intervention and educational services. The Luton All Women's Centre is often in need of female specialists to help deliver their activity and support programmes. It also relies on volunteers to assist with admin and to work on their reception at the centre.

YMCA Bedfordshire

The YMCA is a world-renowned charity that actively supports young people in improving their quality of life. This includes assisting homeless youths or those at risk of becoming so, by offering tailored support and a safe place to live.

In Luton, you'll find that the YMCA Bedfordshire branch run a supported accommodation unit called Midland House, that's able to offer up to 78 people a bed for the night in addition to other vital services.

Why not get in touch to see if the organisation in need of volunteers locally, to help with admin, maintenance or mentoring?
