Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Norwich
The number of rough sleepers in Norwich has soared over recent years. With the average life expectancy of a homeless person just 47 and winter temperatures plummeting below zero degrees, it's vital that these 400 people are given support to get them off the streets.
With many more people classed as homeless in Norwich and the surrounding area, this is a great cause for you to get involved with. There are plenty of Norwich charities that help homeless people, and they always need help from people like you.
If you want to start volunteering Norwich can provide you with the opportunities to help its problem with homelessness. So take a look at some of the best homeless charities Norwich has to offer below, and start thinking about how you want to help.
HOMELESS CHARITIES IN NORWICH THAT NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Crisis
One of the UK's foremost homeless charities, Crisis was founded in 1967 and offers support, education and training to help homeless people take positive steps forward. So far, People's Postcode Lottery players have raised over £6 Million for this charity.
You could support Crisis in its major operation over winter, or join the charity's campaigns to end homelessness in the UK. You could also help out by volunteering to ensure homeless people can receive specialist help and advice.
Depaul UK
Formerly a charity local to London, Depaul UK has spread its wings to help homeless people in a range of countries abroad, including the United States, France and the Republic of Ireland.
Our players have raised over £12 Million to help the charity fight homelessness. You could make a huge difference in many people's lives by volunteering as a Nightstop host or as a Get up and Go mentor for a young person.
Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney
Established in 1992, Emmaus has grown a lot over the years and now has around 30 residential sites across the UK. With lots more charity shops, including in Ditchingham and Bungay not far from Norwich city centre, the charity raises funds by selling everything from furniture and electrical items to white goods and bric-a-brac, as well as cakes, sausage rolls and hot drinks at the Old Orchard Cafe.
This gives you plenty of opportunities to volunteer your time, as you help the charity in its effort to offer as many people as possible a stable home while they get their lives back on track.
Hope Into Action
With the Norwich branch of this charity set up 2012, Hope into Action partners with churches in the local area to house and support homeless people. With more safe places opening up all the time, this gives more and more people the chance to improve their lives and their family relationships.
From refugees and asylum seekers to people who find themselves living in poverty and financial hardship for an array of reasons, you can make a real difference when you volunteer your time for this charity or get your own church involved in the scheme.
