Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Swansea

It's a worrying fact that the number of rough sleepers on our streets is very much on the rise in the UK. From those who are unable to secure a stable job, to those who have been cut off from their families, there are thousands of people in desperate need of support.

Why Volunteer For Homeless Charities In Swansea?

Whether it's a large city like London or a smaller city or town, you'll likely come across homeless people wherever you go. In places like Swansea, it's not uncommon to see over 25 people sleeping rough on a given night in the city's streets.

Thankfully, in Swansea and around the UK, there are many charities that are solely dedicated to helping the homeless. From foodbanks that collect vital provisions to more specialist advice services about employment and wellbeing, you'll find no shortage of great organisations.

The UK's homeless charities can't run on their own, though. They rely on teams of volunteers, fundraisers and campaigners to help keep them funded and able to continue with their amazing work. In Swansea, you'll find a handful of brilliant local homeless charities dedicates to helping those on our streets. Why not volunteer with one of them, and see how you could make a difference?

Homeless Charities In Swansea That Need Your Help

The Wallich

Founded in 1978, The Wallich's team of 300 employees and volunteers currently run over sixty different projects around Wales for the homeless. Its supported accommodation options vary from shared houses to mobile homes, and can offer people a bed for the night in less central areas.

The Wallich tries to provide long-term solutions to homelessness by offering advice to those suffering with things like addiction or health problems, as well as providing job training and education opportunities.

Volunteers are always needed to help maintain The Wallich's accommodation units in Swansea, and to assist with outreach on the city's streets. You could also get involved with one of the organisation's seasonal campaigns, or help out at a fundraising event.

Shelter Cymru

Shelter Cymru is the Welsh offshoot of one of the UK's leading homeless charities. Shelter has offices and charity shops across Wales, including a branch in Swansea. It helps secure people safe and happy homes through its range of confidential services, alongside campaigning for legal changes so less people are evicted or resort to living on the streets in the first place.

In Swansea, the office on Walter Road can provide information and support for the homeless or those at risk of becoming so. It often needs volunteers to help with administration, to greet people when they arrive and to monitor their helpline. You could also get involved with fundraising charity events in Swansea or simply show your support by backing one of their important campaigns.
