Design A #DreamWheelchair

Whizz-Kidz are giving young wheelchair users the chance to push the boundaries of what a wheelchair can be
Thanks to Whizz-Kidz, wheelchair users aged 25 and under can design their own #DreamWheelchair

Thanks to our players, Whizz-Kidz are giving young wheelchair users in the UK the chance to design their own #DreamWheelchair.

Wheelchair users in the UK aged 25 and under can enter their design into the charity's competition for the chance to win a range of prizes

Whizz-Kidz have teamed up with actress and disability campaigner Samantha Renke, Duchenne UK and the University of Edinburgh to research and develop new technology, designs and innovations to integrate with and enhance mobility equipment.

The competition is part of Wheels of Change, a £1 Million project funded by players of People's Postcode Lottery through the Dream Fund 2018 initiative.

Samantha said, "I'm really looking forward to seeing entries with inventive design solutions to the everyday obstacles young wheelchair users encounter. My dream wheelchair would turn into a car at the touch of a button so I can travel whenever I want.

"The possibilities for a dream wheelchair are endless so we want to encourage young people to push the boundaries of what a wheelchair can be and dream big!"

To date, our players have raised £1.6 Million for Whizz-Kidz. The charity offers a number of empowering services designed to change young lives for the better.

Wheels Of Change

People's Postcode Lottery Ambassador Fiona Phillips recently spent the day in Cumbernauld with a group of young people to find out how they would reimagine the wheelchair.

Fiona said, "Thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery, who are able to support Dream Fund projects like Wheels of Change, Whizz-Kidz can explore the way people use wheelchairs in the future. The young people I've met have some big ideas and it's great to hear them."

Entrants to the compeition can submit their design either by drawing it, writing it, or a bit of both. Don't worry if you aren't confident with drawing or writing, you can team up with someone else who can help you. Just make sure the ideas are all yours. Will it be wacky, wild, and wondrous? Do you have a brilliant idea to help transform your wheelchair and your life? Whizz-Kidz want you to be creative, dream big and make it amazing!
