Five lucky players from Bury have struck it rich, all thanks to their postcode. Each of our winners picked up a £30,000 cheque after their postcode, BL9 9TF, was drawn in today's Street Prize. The wins were revealed during a video call by Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson.
A delighted Helen was left shell-shocked after Matt unveiled her big cheque from a golden envelope. Upon seeing the amount, she exclaimed, "Shut the back door! No way! No! What? I don't believe this. I'm speechless for once in my life - is this real?"
World Tour In Style
Helen, who works for a railway company, dreams of an early retirement. She said, "I could probably retire a few years earlier. My husband is a little bit older so I thought I'll retire that little bit earlier and then we can tour the world - First Class tickets!
"I've worked all throughout this pandemic and now I can probably take it easy."
Thinking about retirement plans, Helen had a dream holiday destination in mind. She said, "I'd probably go to Bali or something like that, just to be spoilt."
Helen joked that her 25-year-old son still hadn't moved out of his childhood home, but some of the prize money could go towards a place of his own. She said, "He's never going to leave home. He'll probably say, 'put a chunk of a deposit on a house for me to move out' - Yay!"
Along with helping her son, Helen said her winnings would be useful for home improvements. She added, "We were going to get a new roof and a new garage so that would go to it easily."
Helen plans to celebrate by opening a bottle of bubbly with her husband and son. She said, "Forget prosecco, forgot gin, we'll go on champagne."
Matt Johnson sent his congratulations to all our winners. He said, "What an amazing surprise for our winning players from Bury. It was my pleasure breaking this incredible news to Helen and I'm delighted that she will be able to do so much with the £30,000 prize. I'm absolutely thrilled for all our winners and I hope they enjoy spending their winnings."
Every day throughout our July draws one postcode will be announced as a £30,000 Street Prize winner. Every player in that lucky postcode will win £30,000 for every ticket they play.
This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Justice Trust, which supports organisations including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Global Witness with regular grant funding. They help improve lives by delivering justice, human rights and equality.
Lucky winners aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. With 33% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, our amazing players have raised more than £750 Million for over 9,000 deserving causes to date.
