Founded in 1962, mac birmingham is one of the most important and busiest arts centres in the UK. It exists to make participation in innovative, creative arts activities an important part of people's lives. mac birmingham is the top visitor attraction in the West Midlands and the fifteenth in the UK.
This fantastic arts complex provides a unique, much-loved and critically acclaimed home for a wealth of contemporary, creative and accessible arts events, courses and activities. mac birmingham has a national and international reputation for its theatre performances, dance, music, comedy, plays for children, literature and poetry events, creative and educational courses, family shows, films and free exhibitions.
The support from players of People's Postcode Lottery will allow mac birmingham to continue to deliver vital work with NEETs (those who are Not in Education, Employment or Training). This programme, which was devised following extensive consultation with local communities, is not supported by the Arts Council England or Birmingham City Council so our players' funding is essential to its development.
mac birmingham will now be able to maintain and develop this crucial area of work through their hub and spoke model and reach out into surrounding neighbourhoods. Their experts will work with ward committees and community groups to create events and celebrations envisioned by local people, as well as encouraging more people to join the 100,000 already involved in the creative activities run through their Learning and Participation programme.
