Street Prize

Golden Envelopes For Grimsby

18 February 2024 - DN37 9QF - Grimsby - £30,000

A delighted document controller bagged a £30,000 Street Prize - then revealed she signed up because she didn't want her neighbour to win without her.

Helen told her pal she would be "gutted" if he won when she wasn't playing - and immediately joined.

Now she's celebrating after becoming one of eight neighbours in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, who each won a £30,000 cheque.

Helen, who wants to buy "expensive hair straighteners" as her first purchase before planning a holiday, said, "I was talking about it with my neighbour a few years ago, and he said, 'Oh, we do the Postcode Lottery'.

"He was saying how good it is and I said, 'Right, I'm going to start doing that.'"

Helen's postcode - DN37 9QF - was today announced as the winner of our Street Prize. Each ticket in St Nicholas Drive was worth £30,000, with a total of £240,000 being won in the postcode.

Helen's husband Rob was working at the time of our visit but thought his wife might win a small prize, joking she'd end up with a casserole dish. Helen couldn't wait to call him to let him know the good news. She said, "Wait till I speak to Rob!"

Plane Sailing

Along the street, great-grandad Stephen will now "turn left on the plane" by turbo-charging a trip to see family abroad.

Stephen had been planning a flight to Malaysia with his wife Vicky to see their son and granddaughter - and already has his sights set on an upgrade.

The retired chemical plant process operator said, "I've got family abroad - a granddaughter in Malaysia - so we'll be visiting."

He added, "We're going to turn left on the plane now."

Eiffel Power

Fellow neighbour Ian wants to take his wife and two daughters to Paris after landing £30,000.

The chemical manufacturing worker said, "I never thought that this would happen. So yeah, we'll use the money to go to Paris, definitely."

Ian said he was keen to make memories with the windfall and added, "That's what it's all about."

Go With The Flo

Widower David is also set to visit his local travel agent to book a family holiday to Orlando - in memory of his wife, who passed away last year.

The retired civil servant also wants a new car after racking up the miles as an ambulance services volunteer, driving patients to and from appointments in his own motor.

Winning Smiles

Lisa and her civil servant husband Andrew are also thinking about jetting off to the Sunshine State - as well as buying a new kitchen and bathroom.

The supermarket sales assistant described her win as "amazing" and plans to use the cash for a holiday abroad. She said, "There's a lot of things we can do with that money. It will help out considerably."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt visited Grimsby to meet our winners.

She said, "I felt like Saint Nicholas in my cheery red coat on St. Nicholas Drive presenting our lovely winners with their cheques.

"They are all pleased to know they're also supporting good causes and charities locally and internationally just by playing.

"I hope they enjoy spending their wins and make sure to treat themselves!"

Charities Everywhere

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Global Trust (opens in a new tab). Supported by our players, this trust delivers grant funding to organisations that are working to save lives and improve health care systems.
