Nottingham Millionaire Street

Gary Hook spent years delivering other people's good news before finally getting a golden envelope of his own. And he got an even bigger surprise when he found out sister Beverley Bell, who lives on the same street, scooped twice as much.

Gary, whose delivery route covers Barton, Thrumpton, Ratcliffe and Kingston, says the win has come at the perfect time as he’s planning to retire from his job in November.

He added: “We’re going back to Tenerife!”

Beverley and self-employed joiner husband Mick plan to spend some of their winnings on the house, including new decking, while Norfolk remains firmly on their holiday list.

Asked how she feels, she said: "Like it's a dream, happy, excited. I want to scream."

Gavin and Angie, who have travelled extensively since retiring, plan to use the money to explore parts of Europe they haven't seen, with Gavin having always dreamed of taking Angie to Crete.

The family also hopes the windfall will help them make improvements to their home, including finally tackling its ageing electrics.

All the winners were thrilled to learn that local charities are also benefitting from their Millionaire Street prize.

And one organisation, Footprints Conductive Education Centre, has been awarded £65,000 thanks to funds raised by Postcode Lottery players. The Nottingham-based charity aims to transform the lives of children living with mobility and communication difficulties across the East Midlands.

Other charities receiving funding include:

• Imara CIO - £65,000 Imara is a Nottingham-based charity, providing independent specialist support to children, teenagers and their families affected by abuse.
• Open Homes Nottingham - £50,000 Open Homes exists to prevent youth homelessness by providing safe emergency accommodation and tailored support for young people aged 16 - 25 across Nottingham. They work with young people facing poverty, housing instability, family breakdown, trauma and poor mental health.
• Zephyr's - £50,000 The charity provides nurturing care and support for bereaved families in Nottinghamshire following the loss of a pregnancy, baby or child. They run accessible, free activities designed to improve the mental health of participants, including professional one-to-one counselling, support groups and play therapy for bereaved siblings.

Deserving causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Planet Trust which supports charities such as Blue Marine Foundation, Peace Parks Foundations and The Wildlife Trusts.
