Three people celebrate outside a house; the woman in front holds a Postcode Lottery cheque for £142,857.

Stonehaven Millionaire Street

Stunned Eileen Ross shrugged off news of her Postcode Lottery win as a prank by her big brother - until she was presented with a cheque for £142,857.

No joke

Three people standing on a lawn, one holding a large cheque for £142,857, outside a stone house with hedges and windows in the background.

Eileen and partner George Duncan, of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, were convinced her brother Bob Ross had set them up.

But they were left speechless when ambassador Judie McCourt pitched up at their front door with a gold envelope containing the bumper prize.

Architect Eileen said: "Wowee! No way! This is mind blowing… life changing. I only ever write down numbers like that on bills. I can’t get my head round it."

Eileen shared £1 Million with six other neighbours in Stonehaven after AB39 2LH landed our weekly Millionaire Street prize today. Every ticket was worth £142,857.

The couple, who are keen Latin and ballroom dancers attending advanced classes at Ballroom Barney in Aberdeen, whirled around in the garden with the cheque as they celebrated the win.

Strictly fun dancing

Now George is planning a shindig to celebrate his birthday next February. And there will be dancing.

The web designer said: "We’ve got a number of social circles. We’ll bring them all together in the town hall. We’ll hire a big band and invite everyone and put a free bar on."

Eileen, who was at work on a building site when she got a call to say she’d won, said they have a humble wishlist.

The couple will get repairs done on their BMW after it failed an MOT, decorate a bedroom - and frugal Eileen has a bizarre treat in mind.

Eileen said: "I might get a new pair of slippers!"

But the couple have vowed to make this year’s Christmas a cracker for friends and family.

She added: "We’re hosting Christmas this year, so it will be a bigger turkey and extra haggis bonbons."

The couple are delighted that neighbours have shared in the £1 Million bonanza.

Eileen said: "This street has such a good community spirit and it’s really nice to be sharing this. It’s super exciting if others have won. They’re all good people who have stayed here for a long time."

Eileen was also driven to join the Postcode Lottery in 2024 to help support local, national and international charities.

She said: "It’s not just about winning, it’s about contributing."

And one local organisation, Pillar Kincardine, has been awarded £25,000, thanks to funds raised by Postcode Lottery players.

The local mental health support charity is passionate about ensuring that no one has to face challenges alone.

Pillar provides a safe, supportive space where people can feel heard, understood and empowered to take positive steps towards better mental wellbeing, with a weekly programme of support services and activities to help maximise recovery for adults aged 16+ experiencing mental ill health.

Gillian Grochla, Pillar Kincardine's Service Manager, said: "We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Postcode Lottery players whose support has made this funding possible. By playing the lottery, they’re helping local charities like ours make a real difference to people’s lives and we’re eternally grateful for their support."

Deserving causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Planet Trust which supports organisations including the Marine Conservation Society, The Wildlife Trusts and WWF-UK.

Players aren't the only ones who benefit from Postcode Lottery. A minimum of 30% of each ticket price goes to charities and good causes. Thanks to our fantastic players, more than £1.8 Billion has been raised for thousands of deserving projects.
