Plymouth Millionaire Street
A maths teacher has added to his bank balance after winning a share of a £1 Million Postcode Lottery prize - and now he’s crunching numbers for a dream honeymoon.
Doing the maths
)
"I’ve had six days to do some maths, from the day the Postcode Lottery called to say I’d won, and I never once came up with this sum. I’m blown away"
Overjoyed Billy Hampson won £90,909 on his and fiancée Amy Tidy’s seventh anniversary. They're planning a Mauritius honeymoon, a new kitchen and even preparing for babies.
Billy was among eight neighbours celebrating when PL6 5UQ in Plymouth landed today's Millionaire Street prize. Each ticket was worth £90,909. One winner, holding three tickets trebled their windfall to a whopping £272,727, and another person banked £181,818 playing with two.
An emotional moment
)
Emotional Sebastian Kowalski landed £181,818 by playing with two tickets. Despite the six-figure windfall, his first thought wasn’t for himself. It was for his wife.
"This is for my wife. She doesn’t get around too well and I want to help."
Neighbours winning together
)
The biggest winner on the street was Nikki Ford, who won £272,727. Also, among the £90,909 winners were Jackie Haskell, Karen Glanville, Sandra Barclay and Ian Blackie.
All the neighbours were overjoyed to hear that their street’s win means local charities have also benefitted.
Billy said: “There are charities close to our hearts in the area. It’d be amazing if they could receive some benefit from this as well - and we’d certainly like to do so with our own winnings if we get the chance.”
And one Devon charity, Trevi Women, has been awarded £100,000 thanks to Postcode Lottery players.
Since 1993, Trevi has helped transform the lives of thousands of women and their children.
Chief Executive of Trevi Women, Amanda Greenwood, said: “This funding will help Trevi Women continue to provide specialist, wraparound support for women and children in Plymouth. Every day, we work with women facing multiple and complex disadvantages - including domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental ill health, homelessness and involvement in the criminal justice system."
