An emotional mum declared her £200,000 Postcode Lottery win 'a miracle' - after revealing the family’s year of torment following her son’s cancer diagnosis.

A family miracle

Tracey Jones said they were plunged into a nightmare after being told son Nicholas had B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in February last year.

Since then, the NHS worker and joiner husband Nick have been supporting their youngest child as he undergoes hospital treatment.

Tracey shared £1 Million with four other neighbours in Clayton-le-Moors after BB5 5LZ landed the Postcode Lottery Millionaire Street prize. Every ticket was worth £200,000.

The schoolboy - who’s now in remission - had just been allowed home from hospital the day before after being treated for pneumonia. Now he’s excitedly planning a dream trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, when he’s fully recovered.

Factory machinist Catherine Monaghan and partner Neil Ferguson whooped with delighted when they were each handed a cheque for £200,000 from ambassador Judie McCourt.

"We’re rich! I never thought this would happen, although you dream about it and spend it a million times."

The couple - who have been together for 15 years - have pledged to share their winnings with their blended family, which includes five children and six grandchildren, with another on the way.

But Neil hopes they can finally book a holiday they’ve always longed for - a cruise in Japan and South Korea.

Across the road, Solicitor Fiona Mitchell spent the previous night in Leeds with husband Scott at comedian Greg Davies’ gig - then landed a £200,000 punchline next morning.

Diagonally opposite, Catherine Conroy ran upstairs to break the good news of her £200,000 win to husband Andrew, who has been battling ill health for the past five years.

The winners all joined Postcode Lottery to support local, national and international charities and were delighted to learn that local organisations have also benefitted from their windfall.

Galloways Society for the Blind has received £75,000 thanks to Postcode Lottery players.

CEO Iain Pearson said: "We are incredibly grateful to Postcode Lottery players across the country who are helping charities like ourselves."

The organisation supports thousands of blind and visually impaired people to lead independent, confident and fulfilling lives.

The funding will help to ensure that blind and visually impaired people continue to receive the support they deserve.

Deserving causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode International Trust which supports organisations including Action Against Hunger, British Red Cross and Mary’s Meals.

Players aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. A minimum of 30% of each ticket price goes to charities and good causes. Thanks to our fantastic players, more than £1.5 Billion has been raised for thousands of deserving projects.
