Volunteering For Animal Charities In Croydon
If you have pets yourself, it can be hard to imagine having to give them up. Even harder no doubt, would be thinking how someone could want to cause harm to their pet. Unfortunately, though, this happens all too often, with the RSPCA fielding over 1.175 million calls to its 24-hour animal cruelty line in 2018 alone.
The same charity responds to many thousands of complaints across Greater London every year, while also helping sick and injured animals in the wild. If coming to the rescue of domestic or wild animals is something you want to get involved in, there are plenty of Croydon charities that'd love your support.
Below we've set out a number of the best animal charities Croydon has to offer, which are always in need of volunteers to keep them going. Volunteering is a hugely rewarding thing to do with your spare time, and can be a great stepping stone to bigger roles within the charity sector.
ANIMAL CHARITIES IN CROYDON THAT NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Dogs Trust
As one of Britain's oldest canine charities, Dogs Trust was founded back in 1891 and is at the forefront of various campaigns and rehoming efforts. Helping to find new homes for more than 15,000 dogs every year, the charity has a number of shops to raise funds for its network of around 20 rehoming centres across the UK.
Whether you're volunteering at one of the Dogs Trust centres in the South East or at the charity's head office on Wakley Street in Angel, People's Postcode Lottery players have already raised over £14 Million so far for this wonderful organisation.
Cats Protection
Established in 1927, Cats Protection helps around 200,000 cats and kittens every year thanks to the efforts of its 250 volunteer-led branches and 40 rehoming centres.
With a centre on Church Road in Mitcham and charity shops in Purley and Coulsdon, as well as a local Croydon branch, there are lots of different ways to volunteer with Cats Protection in this area. Our players have also raised over £3 Million for this great cause so far.
RSPCA
One of the leading lights in animal protection across the UK for two centuries, the RSPCA was formed all the way back in 1824. As Britain's largest animal welfare charity, it gets involved in a wide array of campaigns and fundraising efforts, making it perfect for volunteering.
The RSPCA Croydon, Crystal Palace & District Branch is always in need of hands-on help, including at its charity shops on Lower Addiscombe Road in Croydon, Westow Street in Crystal Palace and Croydon Road in Caterham.
Wildlife Trusts
A network of local and regional trusts that come together under one nationwide umbrella, the Wildlife Trusts cares for over 2,300 natures reserves around the UK, accounting for almost 100,000 hectares of land.
Whether you're volunteering for the London Wildlife Trust at a one-off event or regularly helping out with maintenance efforts at your local nature reserve, our players have raised more than £15 Million so far for the Wildlife Trusts too!
PDSA
A wonderful charity that provides critical help and support to animals whose owners couldn't otherwise afford to pay for veterinary treatments, PDSA has come to the rescue of millions of animals over the last century. Our players have raised over £11 Million so far for the charity.
Providing 2.7 million treatments to around half a million pets every year thanks to pet hospitals such as the one on Hurst Road in Croydon, you could also offer your volunteering services at the PDSA shop in Orpington.
