Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, with over 1,000 people in the UK diagnosed with it every week.
Breast Cancer Now has grown to cover most parts of the UK, putting on meetings where people affected by the disease can share their experiences, as well as running an online support community. You could help out with moderating an online forum, or even assisting at an event in Leeds. Our players have raised over £4.5 Million so far for Breast Cancer Now.
Established in 1998, Cancer Support Yorkshire has become much more than just a service that provides counselling to people with cancer. From raising awareness to complementary therapies, support groups and helping people with transport, the charity also puts on exercise and arts and crafts sessions.
This means there are plenty of ways you can help this local charity, which has centres in Bradford, Wakefield and Skipton. There's also a charity shop in Skipton which is always seeking volunteers to help with tasks like organising stock and serving customers.
A charity that aims to provide cancer care that's as uplifting as possible, Maggie's is the brainchild of Maggie Keswick Jencks, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1995. The first Maggie's centre opened the following year, and there are now over 20 of them across the UK.
Whether you want to volunteer at Maggie's Yorkshire or help out at a fundraising event, your help will surely be appreciated. Our players have raised over £17 Million for the charity to date.
Based in Wakefield, less than 10 miles south of Leeds city centre, TheRockinR Gaming Charity was founded in 2018 in memory of Reece Miree. The 11-year-old lost his battle with a brain tumour, but his memory lives on in the form of this charity, which is named after his online gamer tag.
TheRockinR targets young people who are in hospital for treatments and procedures, and interacts with thousands of youngsters each year through its mobile gaming units. Whether you're getting involved with a corporate fundraising scheme or volunteering your time, you can help lift the spirits of children who are likely to be anxious and frightened.
Breast Cancer Haven was set up in 1997 to provide free support for anyone with breast cancer. From coping with a diagnosis to dealing with the side effects of treatments, the charity offers everything from classes and talks to support days and workshops.
With a number of centres dotted around England, the Yorkshire branch is on East Street in Leeds. You'll get a full induction when you become a 'Haveneer', giving you access to a range of volunteering opportunities to suit different time allowances.
