Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Swindon

Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Swindon

In recent years, the number of people sleeping on the streets of Swindon has increased significantly. In fact, it is estimated that there are between 20 and 30 people in Swindon sleeping rough at any given time. To stop this already worrying figure from climbing any further, there's no better time to take action.

Why Volunteer For A Homeless Charity In Swindon?

Thankfully, Swindon, like many other cities and towns around the UK, is blessed with a handful of wonderful charities that are dedicated to eradicating and preventing rough sleeping. As well as relying on donations to cover their running costs, they're also always in desperate need of people to help volunteer to run their housing, welfare and wellbeing programmes, as well as to organise charity events locally.

Take a look at the following local homeless charities in Swindon for volunteering and fundraising opportunities. You could also sign up to play People's Postcode Lottery, as you'll not only be giving yourself a chance to win a prize, but helping a range of good causes as well.

Homeless Charities In Swindon That Need Your Help

Threshold Housing Link

One of Swindon's largest homeless charities, Threshold Housing Link provides those in need with short-term, long-term and emergency accommodation. The organisation was founded in 1972 by a group of locals who provided hot soup to rough sleepers on Swindon's streets.

Currently, Threshold Housing Link runs three services aimed at supporting single rough sleepers in the area. These include their women-only accommodation unit, their four supported housing schemes and their outreach programme that invites people to their drop-in centre for advice and hot meals. Every year, the project is able to help over 750 people - but you could help them reach out to even more.

As well as volunteering to help prepare meals at the centre, assisting with the housing schemes or aiding with outreach, you could also get involved with the organisation's annual Big Sleepout, or other fundraising events in Swindon.

Volunteer Centre Swindon

Swindon's Volunteer Centre is a great organisation that puts people in volunteer placements around the local area. This can include supporting homeless charities either directly or by helping with a fundraising or awareness event.

Volunteer Centre Swindon is located on John Street and encourages people to drop-in to discuss current opportunities. There are often hundreds to choose from, including administration or behind the scenes roles and those that see you working directly with disadvantaged people. You could give up just a small amount of your time as a one-off, or even commit to a regular volunteering position.
